Hello all, newbie here, been hanging in the shadows reading everything i can and building forges.Grew up in Montana on a cow/calf ranch with a coal forge for hot shoeing horses in the shop and always been interested in knife making since i was tall enough to turn the hand blower. Want to thank you all for being so open with yor craft and also say hello to Ed ,
I was in Riverton all summer pasturing cattle and didnt even know such a great bladesmith was so close or i would have surely said hello ( and camped in the rain on a ant hill, just to see the man work!), my loss.
Ed, do you know Mike Hayes overthere? Who i stayed with and also helped build his house while i was there. Be summering cows around there again maybe we can get a cup of coffee sometime...
Just wanted to let you know this cowhand thinks your all the greatest group of people in one buissness that i ever seen!

Romey: Welcome to blade forms, you will find it a nice place to visit.

You are welcome on the Willow Bow. We will be building a new shop and place to host seminars about the development of the High Performance Blade this summer. If you like building while sharing time with cows, we may be able to work something out. Also have some cows to enjoy.

We are getting some good moisture and it is looking good for grass this year, we hope.

Howdy Ed, Id sure be please to stop by and give you a hello. Not sure how things will work out to summer cows down there this summer, im pushing for it just becuase i like the people around there and if you get more rain then in Montana or South Dakota then i will push even harder for lease land for about 1000 pairs but im not sure i can find that much lease. Got a forge question for you, on this new forge im thinking of going with a venturi type, are they better or worse to weld with then forced air as far as heat temps and fuel economy? By the way i get over to Riverton more then just the summer months and its entirely possible we will be outfitting hunters this year around Lander

my wife doesn't know it yet, but I have been saveing money for a trip to visit this new shop that Ed speaks of.

I hope I can learn enough while working out in my shop this winter to help me understand the ideas I could learn in Riverton. But I know I got a long way to go yet...

oh,if my wife ever posts on BLADE FORUM, whatever you do, dont tell her about the plans I have for money she knows I got hidden under the TV table, (She thinks it's for something new for the house)

I forge from a Mankel 3 burner and like it very much. I have only forged on one venturi and found that one very anemic. Bill Burke just made a forge and said it will get to welding heat easily, you might e mail him and get his plans.

When you get time to visit, be sure and call me first, sometimes we get pretty busy with events that are remote from the shop.

Get in as much practice as you can, the more you know, the quicker we will be able get to events that matter.

The BLM cut back on grazing allotments this summer, maybe the moisture will change that. A lot depends on what happens in the next three months. Sure makes it hard to plan about cows, they are easy to love anyway.
