"The World of Custom Knives" is a large format picture book displaying
beautiful custom knives from several major European collections.
Roberto Allara wrote the introduction and Francesco Pachi took the pictures.

The book was published by "Tipografia Edizione Saviolo" in 2001
The illustrations are magnificent!

The picture captions are too short, not supplying the reader much about the knife
or the knifemaker.
For example: All that is written on page 10 about two beautiful knives by Harumi Hirayama,
is: "Harumi Hirayama is a very nice lady, it is difficult to believe that she is making Knives"

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Hi Joss,

I also own this fine volume. Frnacesco Pachi's photographic style is similar to Jim Weyer: He uses various real backgrounds and props to add flavor to the images and emote inspiration. As I look through it again, I don't think there is a single double exposure throughout. I am also in awe of the captures. Incredible knives at the very top of the custom knife world. Francesco is WAY over my skills.

There is PLENTY of text, but it centers less around each of the makers and covers more broad aspects such as the history of knives, collecting, embellishments, steels, maker vs artist, blade styles, and MUCH more. It is written in an educated manner and is meant to allure the newer collector and satisfy the seasoned collector.

I consider it an absolutely necessary addition to my photographic collection of all five Points of Interest books and all of the ongoing books written by Dr. Darom.

Highly recommended!

I don't think it is available anywhere unfortunately - unless one is willing to spends hundreds of $.

I own a copy too and although DDD's books are better IMO it's a great book nevertheless with lots of very nice photo's.

Hi Joss,

I do have it too. I shall show it to you if we meet here in Paris. Nice book. Pictures are not so clear as they are in Darom's books, though.

Great book. I bought mine from Mr. Allara a couple of months ago. It was the last copy he had. I've seen a few of the knives in that book change hands over the last few months.
