I was wondering if anyone has seen any of the new crkt knives based on ALLEN`S designs. Around here there aren`t to many places that have a decent selection of knives. There was one good shop that had a fine selection of knives, but it has been closed for several months now.

I played with them here in Rockford at Tom's Cutlery. (The Anubis and the other one. Tom even had auto versions of them IIRC, not sure if they were stock though.) Seemed like solid knives to me for what it's worth. Allen is one heck of a knife designer, I've had a couple of his customs and couldn't find anything wrong with them either.:thumbup: (still have one of them) Plus, he knows how to make a nice sized clip in these times of HUGE UGLY GAUDY clips which should be commended.

I hate to get off-topic, but Oilman, I had no idea there was a Tom's Cutlery (or anybody's cutlery, for that matter) in Rockford.

I was in Rockford this weekend. D'oh!

Yep, but it wouldn't have mattered cuz he had all his good stuff at the Janesville show. I'm thinking he's got directions to his shop on his new website: www.tomscutleryco.com He carries Productions, Customs, and has a whole room of wall hangers if that's what trips your trigger. PM me if you need any more info.

ps. THis is in Rockford Illinois, I'm sure there are more Rockfords in the states some where.

Thanks OilMan Rockford IL was the one I was talking about.

I'll have to check it out when I'm up there again in a few weeks.

I should get back to the actual thread...

Old Guy...I want to like CRKT but I wish they used better steel more consistently. I see that they are beginning to, and I don't recall what they used on those two knives. I have one of their Crawford Kaspar folders....great design...bad metal (420J2)

Their steel quality does change often. The other thing I have noticed is the bead blast finish differs in quality too. Even though bead blasting does seem to rust a little more, in crkt`s case, it is always different. I have an old casper model myself, and the finish on it has actually held up great over the years. I have had it wet, and forget to dry it off, and it never developed rust, howver I have had other models rust in a heartbeat. For me, I would like them to add more polished blades, even though they probably have to charge more.
