Well today I added to my collection and picked up a 16. So now I have a 2,9,11 and 16. So I was wanting to put the other set of handles that came with the 16 on it and didnt see in the database what size allen wrench they were. Actually I'd like to get an allen wrench to keep with all my beckers just in case I'm out and they come loose. So could someone tell the sizes? Thanks

5/32 for my BK-7, even though I read yours smaller.

Every real man needs a full set of Allen Wrenches......I have had my Snap-On set for decades.

it's a weird size, i forget. search should find it...

but a T5 torx or something like that fits best easiest... if you have a set of torx, you're closer than you think

The hardware for the BK16 is 8/32, which is just smaller than 4mm. The bolts are 1/2" long.

I didn't have a wrench that'd fit, but used a 3mm with a rubber ranger band over the end to get them out. Then I dremeled a slot into the end for the ability to remove them with the flathead driver on my SAK Huntsman. Hopefully tomorrow I will make it to the hardware store to get some proper fasteners.

Maybe something that should be in the BBD?

nobody reads that...

and i'm kinda boycotting KaBars choice of using wonky screws :D

Cant deny Kabar's hardware sucks. But I disagree about the database. Kabar's crappy screws are just one of the many reasons so many people use that database. We get a lot of questions about hardware. Some can be referred to the database but some info has to be repeated over and over for the new guys. Its a great database, but it needs a little updating.

the original screw and hex key information should be in the database. always has.

KaBar at one point switched sizes, possibly due to contaminated supply stock, or a shortage, so now you need two different sizes for the "full size" knives

why in ghods name they used such a weird sized hex for the 15/16/17 that almost nobody owns, even in a set... but fits a common Torx size, is beyond me.

i figured as long as there wasn't a standard anymore, providing conflicting information would be silly

as well, the varying lengths of bolts is all over the map now, due to size variation on tang thickness, original vs camillus (or older) handle slab thicknesses and materials, after market, and all that. not the least of which the sizes change if you strip the knives (or KaBar suppies a model that doesn't have a coating vs one that does (BK14 vs BK24)

bit of a headache. would need a spreadsheet, and ... yeah, never got around to it. KaBar doesn't supply the information, so it's not an easy matter of official data sheet information - which is MOSTLY what the database is. maybe if i'm motivated enough, someday, i'll sit around with dozens of knives and some calipers, and measure. my inner cynic would then find people complaining they bought a #4 x 3/4 inch based on the chart, only to find it didn't fit, because KaBar used .009 thicker steel that week, or otherwise changed some specs without notice (which they do)... so. yeah.

someone wanna compile it? i'll add it. i've made that offer before. nobody stepped up.
