I thought I'd post some photos I took of Allen at work when I stopped by the shop a while back. The man is a skilled and talented artisan, who is always busying himself with multiple projects. He is also fun to talk with...though of course sometimes you have to wait on him to get through talking to one of his clients or customers.

Watching him taper tangs was definitely educational

As was watching him go about doing his very nice hollow grinds.

I picked up one of Allen's Bush Adder models some time back maybe a year ago, a nice little knife, 4-inch blade, 8-inches overall. 1/8-inch O-1, tapered tang, with natural G10 over lime green G10 with black pinstripes.

Very nice texturing on the blade flats.

This one has pulled a good deal of kitchen duty, it slices like a laser and handles like a dream.

Today it spots a natural patina from lots of times at the cutting board.

Since that time, Allen has expanded both his line of models and the level of detail he puts into his knives.

The Minuteman is one of his smaller models, a nice day hiker or small game knife.

The Bison is a larger model, more of a camp knife, that handles very well.

Then there is the Great White Buffalo, which is just a beast of a knife.

The Loveless inspired drop-point Hunter is another addition to his line this past year

He has really kicked his knife making game up a notch or two since I first met him a year ago. Not only with the metal guards and bolsters, the tapered tangs, and more exotic woods, he was doing those early on, but he has also been doing some very nice file work as well.

His most recent step up in his game has been some gorgeous sub-hilted fighters.

With the huge amount of talent I have seen him develop just over the course of the year since we first met, I can only imagine what two more years will bring. I am looking forward to seeing some amazing knives from WAS Knives.

Really liked this post. I always like these "in action" style posts since I have little practical knowledge of the process.

I really like Allen's work and look forward to picking one up at some point. Really like that Bison.

Thanks!

Great write up and photos Mist. Thanks for sharing. And I have to agree with every single thing you say about Allen's work. I even recognize a few that are pictured..;)

Mist,
Great write up on Allen. Love his hollow grinds. He continues to push himself and up his ability level.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow Mist what a awesome thread! I have a Bush Adder, great thick handle and love it! Can't wait until I can get a Hunter! Amazing Pics Mist and Amazing Work Allen!

Awesome post. Alan makes some sick blades! I recently got a Badger & I just love the blade shape. The point is super functional and it has just enough belly to be versatile. I'm looking forward to picking up more & watching WAS grow.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future of WAS Knives has in store.
