I just got my first esee! Its a brand new esee4, and its my favorite knife that i own, but I have had the worst allergies ever since. Does anyone know how i could get the resin off the handle without hurting the knife?

How do you know that there is a causative connection between your ESEE and your allergies?

Send me your knife and see if the allergies get better. :) I'll be happy to store any knives you're allergic to. I'll even break them in for you at no extra cost.

Seriously, if you have contact allergy to phenolic resin or others (phenolic, epoxy, silicone, or melamine resins are possible), then you're out of luck. The resin is impregnated throughout the scale and won't "come off." Have you tried cleaning it really well to see if there was some particulates left over on the handle? It that doesn't work, then I don't know what else you can do...

Good luck.

Since my wife is deathly allergic to natural rubber latex (she's actually been the focus of some medical studies and articles), I understand the frustration and anguish that allergies can result in. However, I'm wondering too how do you know that the knife specifically is what you're allergic to? Are you getting a contact rash or another reaction soon after touching the handle to your body? If so, is it localized to the area of skin that touched the knife, or your hand in general? Is there a possibility of a chemical irritant being involved? Have you tried temporarily covering the handle with something else like some duct or masking tape (assuming you're not allergic to latex) to see if that causes an immediate result?
