Allergic to my Sebenza

I have this odd allergy to my new Sebenza – if I spend significant time handling it, I'm almost guaranteed to develop little nicks and cuts on my hands.

It's the strangest thing.

I'm used to cutting myself with my knives. I'll give myself one that requires a bandage within the first week or two of any new purchase as I "get used to its handling" (read: use it for everything and toy with it the rest of the time); while this is usually a one-time thing, my AFCK bites me every third time I use it. With my Sebenza I managed to land my thumb across the blade as I was learning the intricacies of its thumb stud. Such is life. But I managed to slice my other thumb just by doing the typical 'sharpness test' (it passed) and I currently have two other nicks on my left index finger that I just can't explain.

I did use my green DMT stone to retouch the factory edge, which makes it a little coarser and more aggressive. But I use that same stone (or the red, or blue) to sharpen all of my knives, so that's nothing new. This little Sebingo really does seem to have more bite than my other knives.

What a great Post;-)
Sounds all very familiar though! I'm glad I'm not the only one having this allery..... Even @ Cr headquarters they didn't know what might cause this condition.

Feel free to let me know what kind of ointment I need to ask my Gp for, because he's puzzled too!!

Good luck,

Niels

It was worth a try DesertHermit!! Thanks anyway!
It worked great untill I decided to sharpen the pack again! The allergy was back in the blink of an eye..... ;-)

I know how to clear things up for you. I'll just take the knife off your hands and there you have it no more allergy to the Sebenza. I'm just trying to help a fellow BF member here :-)

Niels, I haven't found anything that's preventative, but some antibiotic creams seem to help with the symptoms. I've thrown a tube in the bag that I carry to work just in case.

86blade, thanks for the offer, but until the cause is known I'd hate to knowingly pass along something that could cause such potentially dangerous health effects.
