As I've grown older, I have increased my seasonal and mold/mildew allergies year by year. My younger brother was allergic to nearly everything when he was 13 but has slowly grown out of most of his allergies. We were talking about allergies and he said that he and his wife bought the micro-fabric mattress, pillow, and comforter covers for their bed and it reduced their allergies amazingly (eliminates dust mites, a terrible allergen producer).

So, I had to try it and after lots of shopping online, I ended up fitting out our queen sized bed for around $175... MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE! My morning allergies are nearly gone and I often wake up breathing through my nose! Something that I haven't done for years!

There are a lot of companies out there for these things, and prices really vary so do your research. One note, the comforter cover we got is made of a nylon-like material so it feels like we're camping and the comforter tends to slide off easily.

Just a public service announcement...

Got some names and/or links to these things? Sounds like something I'd like to look into.

I got mine from Allergy Guard Direct. They had the lowest prices at the time and their comparison shopping links were very helpful. They do a rundown of comparable fabric names and other good research info that I verified off of other sites. I didn't want to put this in my first post as I didn't want it to seem a plug for a specific company...

sounds like it will help me as well. just quickly looked through the site.

are they designed to have a pillow case over the allergy covers?

Thanks for posting the info HomeBru!!!!
I don't have any allergies but this is great knowledge for those that do and develop them later on!!!

Yep, since sheets and pillowcases are frequently laundered (hopefully!), they don't have the problem with dust mites. We even decided to put the mattress pad on over the mattress bag just to make it more comfy. We just wash the pad every time we wash sheets...
