Alligator Gar Fishing Texas

Fishing In Texas on the Trinity River we caught and released on rod and reel our 10th alligator gar over 100 pounds during 2017.
Currently im fishing for gar about every other day and finding a ton of fish including some massive gator gar over 7 foot.
This fish went 6 foot 3 inches and 110 pounds and was released unharmed after a few pics she had one of the stranger mouths that i has seen on an alligator gar it was short but almost an inch wider on either side than it should have been.

Nice, I've made one bowfishing trip where we shot a few big gars but nothing like that !
 
What are their purpose?? I go to the lake every other weekend for 4 days, tubing,fishing and of course swimming... Swore I rubbed up against one of those monsters last trip... After being at the beach most my life and worrying about sharks here in Oklahoma i now find myself concerned about these hideous creatures
