Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any experience with an alltrade drill press.
i can get a used but in good shape one for $30, but i cant really find info on it.

its 1/3 hp and 5 speed.
1/2 inch chuck.
22 1/2 tall and 16 deep.

thats about all i have on it.
it will mainly be used for drilling holes in scales and handles and possibly eventually in steel.

thanks guys

Alltrade: moderate quality Asian import brand. I no longer have any Alltrade tools, but the ones I had were adequate, especially if tuned a bit. If the shaft is not bent and the bearings are good it's worth the $30. Put a decent chuck on it, and maybe a link-type v-belt, and as Lieblad mentioned, a bit of locktite or teflon tape on the handle threads. "Tram the table" and you should be able to get some good results out of it. Run it at the right speed and holes in mild steel up to 1/2" should be possible

Alltrade tools are very low quality. I owned a tool store for many years and tested most of the import tools back in the day. WB

if you don't have a drill press, and can score that unit for 30 bucks I'd say go for it

It's a $30 roll of the dice....if you have no press, Lorien Lorien is exactly right. Make some holes :)
