Just the facts please. How are these studs secured onto the blade? I am planning to reduce the height of the "outside" (facing away from right side pocket)stud with a file. Are they pressed on, screwed on or...?

The thumbstuds are screwed on. I can't remember if lock-tite is used, so you may want to heat them a little just in case.

I just used my dremel to remove the thumb on one side of mind since it kept getting caught on my pocket. The other side was fine. I think they're dually screwed in.

Dual screwed? Do the thumbstuds have a threaded post each attached to them? If so what do they thread into? Blade stock, if threaded, is a bit thin I think. Or are the studs both females and thread into a post that is protruding on both sides of blade?

I want to prevent from filing too much off.

Greg, which side of the stud did you file off of? Are you carrying right handed?

The one I had was a typical style thumb stud, one side male the other female. That was when they first came out. I don't know what recent models are like.

I filed off the top tier on both sides, and had no problems, but I just left them on the knife while I did it.
Point being, if you are just thinking of filing off the top tier, you should have no problems.
After doing this to mine, I have had zero problems with the thumbstud catching on my pocket and partially opening..
Again, point being that filing off only the top tier solves the problem of the partial opening during the draw..

I'm just bored and looking around for threads to post in, but the information is relevant...

I was going to file the thumb studs down on mine but then just used shrink tubing over them and it worked fine. They don't catch on anything with the tubing over them, they are still stock, and now very comfortable to open via the studs. I gotta tell ya the more I use it and such the better I like this knife. It has to be my favorite amongst all the knives I own with my 550 coming in a close second. The 2K just wreaks of custom quality and finish. Keep'em sharp

Hi Nakano,
Well first I filed the top tier down and shrinkwrapped it to prevent it from getting caught on my pocket. It didn't work that well so I drmeled off the stud on the side opposite of the blade etching...or if holding it in the right hand the outter or right side.

The studd on the left side of the blade is a male end. The other side I assume was female (I don't have it---so dually screwed is inaccurate--my apologies. I wasn't thinking that well last night). I just used some loc-tite and every thing seems fine...however....when you take off the opposite stud completely you can pull out the remaining stud if you try.

If you're concerned about that perhaps just filing down until it is comfy is the way to go.

Alright, I think I' m ready to proceed with this. Thanks for the info folks. Especially Mike, for your boredom! :)
