I looked at an Almite Navigator in a gunshop today, but didn't handle it or look too closely, because we got into one of those typical gunshop discussions. The Navigator got lost somewhere between RWS air rifles, and a long-slide Safari Arms Matchmaster.
Anyway, I didn't get it out to look at.
What steel does the Almite version use? C'mon, say VG-10 or ATS-55!
Anybody got one? Got an opinion on it?
I like the looks, and it's a little bigger than my sts DF. Might have to make another addition to the family.

Owen, it's Gin-1/G2. Less slippery than SS and a good utility knife. Broad ala the Calypso.

Nothing wrong with Gin-1/G2; it holds an edge pretty well and is easy to sharpen. My SS Dragonfly has a Gin-1 blade, while my girlfriend's has the ATS-55. Mine is still just as sharp as hers (and gets used more!).

I'm in love with VG-10 too, so I certainly wouldn't mind any knive made with this steel. I handled a G10 Navigator and liked the grip alot. I just have other knife priorities (finally got a Lum Tanto...I like it).

Thanks, guys. I'll probably go back next week, and give it another look. Gin-1 doesn't really float my boat, but realistically, just how hard am I planning to use this knife? Not hard at all, actually. Just on little stuff.
The handle will decide, I think, if I can get beyond "steel snobbery"

Hey Owen. It's a great "fly" model (PlainEdge only).

Gin-1 is tougher and better at corrossion resistance than ATS.

Love mine, works great holding down all the paper money (1$ bills

) in my pocket all day. Small but robust is how I would describe it. Very comfortable to use, good steel- makes me nostalgic for my first G2 rescue!

Just bought the almite navigator. Love it. Its a very nice looking and non scary knife. Have plenty of the scary ones. This knife is very arty looking. Handles great and is perfect for everyday carry in the bottom of your pocket. I was going to buy the g-10 version, but when I saw the Almite at knifecenter.com, I just grabbed the credit card and ordered. Its slicker than G-10, but easier on your pockets also. Much prettier too. Another winner like all my Spydercos. By the way the, The Lum Chinese is growing on me too.
