Almite Walker -- some history, please?

Let me start off by saying that the Almite Walker is my favorite knife, at least so far. I'm not saying it's the better than any other knife, or that it will cure the sick and heal the lame, only that I personally really like mine. Purely a subjective thing.

Given that this model is also known as "experimental 6," I would assume that it was considered for inclusion in the Spyderco product line, but didn't make the cut. So I'm wondering, why not? Is there anyone out there (hint, hint: anyone at Spyderco reading this?) who knows the answer, and is willing to share?

Also, I was wondering how many Almite Walkers were manufactured. Not that I'm concerned with collector value; just wondering how many are out there.

Thanks in advance, for whatever info you can provide.

Dave - The first Walker was the Carbon fiber model. Then we made the lite-weight. The Almite experimental was produced as an Ironstone exclusive. I'm not sure of the quantity produced. No more than 1,200, probably more like 500. You can shoot an Email to Angela in Customer Service, she can ask Susan and get back to you.

Thanks Sal. So then, the Almite model was never considered for inclusion in the regular Spyderco product line; i.e., it was strictly produced at Ironstone's request?

Dave - correct. we have the capability to create & produce new designs and numerous variations of current or older designs. We do have have the resouces to inventory the large numbers needed to make a run of each variation.

We will produce a run of a model or variation of a model for a customer as an exclusive providing they will shoulder the cost of inventory. AG Russell has done this with Spyderco several times and it has worked out well.
