It has been nearly a year since I have been on here and I want to take this opportunity to tell you all how much I appreciate your friendship.
To the newer folks: This community is a one of kind. There is no other place, whether electronic or physical, which will teach you more about community and friendship than this place. I’m serious, nowhere!

I have learned a lot in the past year about (in no particular order): steel, blade geometry and design, edges and edge retention, handles and scales, sheaths, leather, kydex, how to eff up leather and kydex, cutting techniques, scars, stitches and bleeding, outdoor living/surviving, cast iron, cooking, chilli and cheese grits, gear, mods, mistakes, bacon, grilling, kayaks, biscuits, Becker seconds for 20 GD dollars at Blade, sabre ground rarities and how I’ll never have one, pic manipulation/Gimp, friend manipulation (lol), axes, hatchets, saws, slip joints, SAKs, friction folders, assless chaps, unemployment and monetary woes, beer, beer, beer,….uh, wait….beer, Norway, Canada, Newfoundland, the Amazon Jungle, Tennessee, the South, Texas, California, all of New England, the Midwest, Arizona Deserts, West by God Virginia, crime rates in Houston, knife laws, stupid knife laws, dogs…and cats, paracord, Bogus Beckers, long gone Beckers, Kabar customer service, custom knife makers, giving away things, receiving free things, rock climbing, figure eights, patrol packs, Becker bags, and other bags, snarkery, rocket science, rocket surgery, Telekinesis, ESP, magic, the X-files…….(oh wait, I got off tangent there for a second) and a myriad of other useful and utterly useless but cool things.

To the Vets: A respected friend once said to me...."I have learned a lot in my years, which is to say, I have learned just enough to make me dangerous."
I remember these words when I read some things here and want to comment but realize I don’t really have much of a knowledge base to back it up. This “caution” if you will, is true for Technical knowledge as well as Social insights. I’m one of these that is not on the inside looking out, rather, I’m on the outside looking in. And, I’m truly OK with that here. But what’s really awesome is, I don’t have to be on the inside to be a part of something special. And that’s what you guys….and girls have taught me.

So, to ALL, I want to say, your tutelage and generosity are amazing to me. For me, as cynical as I can be…well, that’s saying a lot.

Anyway, back nearly a year ago I got this:

And thanks to the Becker bug I now have this:

These I got a few weeks ago. They are upcoming Xmas presents.

Not pictured are a BK16, I bought for the wife, which was stolen by my daughter. And my daughter's BK13 she got at BeckerWest last spring.

In order to further show my appreciation toward this friendship, around the first part of December I will host some sort of contest so that the lucky winner(s) will have a Xmas gift from me.

Glad you stuck through the initiation! Hopefully soon you will be able to sit down and close your eyes without seeing those nightmares anymore.

Nice collection you got going!

Congrats td! I really like the Becker family photo. But it looks like yer 16 & 9 need a little dirt time. :)

I gotta say...that OP made me a little misty eyed. :D
I'm glad you're here TD and I look forward to hanging out with you again at BeckerWest!
You're a PBR man. So you're OK in my book! :D

They do. I just got them in, ordered some sheaths and have not a chance to bang em up. But, I will. Thanks

I agree. A great set of folks here. I've learned a ton here and been able to share a little too. Deffinetly gives me a home away from home when out of town for work too.

Kiss ass.

:D

But you are right and true on all accounts.

Now I gotta call myself a kiss ass.......

:D

Haha, I read your post and had to laugh, you said all those things you "learned" about. Knowing this group, did you actually learn something or was you just fed a bunch of bullsh!t! Lol, either way, glad to have ya! ;)

Well, that's where the dangerous part comes in. I didn't mean dangerous as in lethality or violence. You know, I meant dangerous as in just enough knowledge to give someone the wrong answer and it turn out badly......so with this group, yeah I learned A LOT. haha

I just need some assless chaps and I'll be covered...liability wise. They shouldn't be too hard to find, I live in the Portland area.

I feel the same about this place. Learned a lot and laughed even more. Look forward to meeting you next weekend at BeckerWest. Looks like ya still got a few Beckers to score until your stable is full :)

Awesome !!! and I totally agree / I've never had a a post count above 250 on any other forum I've ever been too - I keep coming back here (lurking )

Right on man!!!!
