It has been nearly a year since I have been on here and I want to take this opportunity to tell you all how much I appreciate your friendship.
To the newer folks: This community is a one of kind. There is no other place, whether electronic or physical, which will teach you more about community and friendship than this place. I’m serious, nowhere!
I have learned a lot in the past year about (in no particular order): steel, blade geometry and design, edges and edge retention, handles and scales, sheaths, leather, kydex, how to eff up leather and kydex, cutting techniques, scars, stitches and bleeding, outdoor living/surviving, cast iron, cooking, chilli and cheese grits, gear, mods, mistakes, bacon, grilling, kayaks, biscuits, Becker seconds for 20 GD dollars at Blade, sabre ground rarities and how I’ll never have one, pic manipulation/Gimp, friend manipulation (lol), axes, hatchets, saws, slip joints, SAKs, friction folders, assless chaps, unemployment and monetary woes, beer, beer, beer,….uh, wait….beer, Norway, Canada, Newfoundland, the Amazon Jungle, Tennessee, the South, Texas, California, all of New England, the Midwest, Arizona Deserts, West by God Virginia, crime rates in Houston, knife laws, stupid knife laws, dogs…and cats, paracord, Bogus Beckers, long gone Beckers, Kabar customer service, custom knife makers, giving away things, receiving free things, rock climbing, figure eights, patrol packs, Becker bags, and other bags, snarkery, rocket science, rocket surgery, Telekinesis, ESP, magic, the X-files…….(oh wait, I got off tangent there for a second) and a myriad of other useful and utterly useless but cool things.
To the Vets: A respected friend once said to me...."I have learned a lot in my years, which is to say, I have learned just enough to make me dangerous."
I remember these words when I read some things here and want to comment but realize I don’t really have much of a knowledge base to back it up. This “caution” if you will, is true for Technical knowledge as well as Social insights. I’m one of these that is not on the inside looking out, rather, I’m on the outside looking in. And, I’m truly OK with that here. But what’s really awesome is, I don’t have to be on the inside to be a part of something special. And that’s what you guys….and girls have taught me.
So, to ALL, I want to say, your tutelage and generosity are amazing to me. For me, as cynical as I can be…well, that’s saying a lot.
Anyway, back nearly a year ago I got this:

And thanks to the Becker bug I now have this:

These I got a few weeks ago. They are upcoming Xmas presents.

Not pictured are a BK16, I bought for the wife, which was stolen by my daughter. And my daughter's BK13 she got at BeckerWest last spring.
In order to further show my appreciation toward this friendship, around the first part of December I will host some sort of contest so that the lucky winner(s) will have a Xmas gift from me.
