Talk about weird encounters. The other day I was driving around some back roads in the country trying to let my son get some sleep since he'll wake up trying to get him into bed from the car seat.

Well I was driving down the road - high corn on once side and field on the other side. Woods at the edge of both.

All of the sudden a hawk carrying something in it's talons flew right in front of my car about as high as mid windsheild. It scared the crap out of me but was cool to see. I'm not sure what type of animal it was carrying but he got a big chunk of grass and dirt in his talons with it.

It was a WAY cool experience. I wish my son was awake to see it. I'm not exactly what kind of hawk it was. Maybe a red-shouldered since the tail looked to be the same color of the body, but it happened pretty quickly.

Wish I could have got it on film.

I was driving across a river bridge once and a Bald Eagle flew up with a fish in it's talons no more than 15' from me. Luckily we were both headed in the same direction so I got more than a fleeting glimpse but not enough time for a pic.
It was very cool.

My closest was when standing on the edge of a cliff looking at the scenery. Suddenly a vulture appeared , rising straight up as if on an elevator.Had I reached out I could have touched him !!
Another close one was face to face no more than 8' away from a great horned owl !
In a vehicle ? Because of a heavily loaded truck going up a steep hill we had to stop. In front of me was a small pickup truck. I looked around and saw a redtail starting from a tree .He came from behind the pickup clearing the roof by about six inches. The drivers reaction was perfect , he scrunched down in the seat and put up his arms in front of his face !! Had the truck been moving that might have caused an accident !

I was riding a motorcycle through some long sweepers once, and had a turkey vulture fly up out of a field and pace me for a few hundred yards. I could have touched his wing if I'd had a mind to.

I once hit a Robin that was flying at me when I was going down a hill. I hit the brakes, but it just flew right into my windshield.

But a hawk? THAT would have been awesome.

I had a black vulture fly right into my windshield at 60 mph. He took off from the road in front of me and SMACK! Somehow my windshield didn't break.

Holy crap - I would have made some Hershey kisses in my drawers....

I had a cotton tailed rabbit run infront of my car one night and he hung a left as he crossed the road and right on his trail like radar tracking was a Great Horned Owl and when he hung the left too it was just cool.

I probably would have if I had the time to think of it.
I was too busy A. trying to breathe:eek:, B trying to get my heart back where it was supposed to be and doing what it was supposed to do and C trying to keep an 80,000lb truck on the road to consider making Hershey kisses.

LMAO - Good on ya, bro for keeping that rig on the road
