This one I'm almost done with. It was ground (probably ground this one too far, but technically it was my first grind) from a nicholson file and has quilted maple scales on it. Blade has a few scratches and smudges on it etc, and needs to be cleaned up but thought I would snap a few pics anyway.

Thanks IG....see I snuck that in there about it being my first. :p Thats the Stuart Willis Acid on quilted maple. Can you tell I'm a wood chuck? Theres like 2 pics of the handle and half a pic of the blade with my thumb over it......:D Eventually I will make it over to the dark side.

Hey Larry,

That wood is very pretty, and good job grinding out your first one! I can tell you from experience that getting the scratches out and the blade finished (and taped well for protection) before installing the handles is a much easier way to go.

Thanks Paul,
I appreciate it. Made the mistake of wiping it sideways with a shop rag and the rag had some dried junk on it, so I got those lovely scratches.

That sort of thing I fear is going to make me (more?) neurotic, Larry. It seems the world is a minefield, with a scratch, blemish, or rust just waiting to attack your almost finished blade at any moment! I've been taping the crap out of mine to avoid scratching them, and I just the other day untaped one and found rust and stain spots under the tape. This is making me think stainless might be the way to go...

Anticipation of scratches, rust and patina is worse than scratches, rust and patina themselves.....:p

Now I gotta go untape all my blades and look under there....:(
