Just got a Black Boron carbide coated Kershaw Ken Onion Leek (#1660BLK)
This is the same coating as the Black Chive (1600BLK)
Ever since I had a Leek (
) I wanted a Black Boron coated version -
not to be confused with the matte black TiNi coating.
and the version snuck up on me unawares....
The Boron Carbide coating is kind of like black chrome -
almost metallized-burnished and a slight hint of brown tint to the shiney black.
At least it is this way on the Black Chive I've owned for years.
The black boron Leek - seems to have a deeper black and almost looks like black lacquer - maybe it's just difference in different batch processing or just the shape and sizes of the knives that emphasize the difference in looks.
Please don't get me wrong the Black (boron) Leek is still extremely attractive and desirable - and maybe time will somehow get that more metallized burnished black chrome look to it......
Anyway I'm thinking of doing another pictorial review - but I'll have to work out how best to take photos of this knife as it is very difficult to show the looks - which is the primary reason for this black boron version.......
Here are some first quick attempts:
Black on black:
Black Leek and Chive
I found out that these black boron coated Leeks were done as a limited special run for Fox FireArms - which is a distributer -
I've found the 1660BLK for sale at
