I really dislike challenges, so I usually avoid them. Then I figured out one of my own that fits me and my personality in the knife life.

The challenge was to simple: carry a different knife in my collection for the entire day with no switching out for the whole 24 hours. Going through a different knife every day till I reached the last one (wife said no on the axes). Taking for me roughly 4 months 😄.

What have I learned:

1. I still don't care to carry traditional or fixed blades. I like using them, but carrying is still a pain. May get a pocket slip for the traditionals to keep trying.

2. I used to fixate on the look of the pocket clip, not as big of a deal now, I'm ok with carrying not selecting based on this as much. Lynch does have a nice wire replacement clip I may get soon though.

3. I have been glad to reacquaint with blades I rarely use or carry, reignited love for some and for others it confirms I may need to thin the collection where they still don't excite me. I've not really ever sold any blades but I may make this a goal over the year.

4. Pictures daily of the knife was my original plan, then I fell behind and I hate my phone camera (Google pixel 7 pro), now maybe taking constant knife photos are not as necessary.

5. I kind of miss certain knives much more than others and I really wanted to be able to carry them for a longer period of time. Being restricted to having to stick to the challenge. Was kind of annoying in this regard. I also noticed I do tend to switch out knives very regularly during the day for no apparent reason and I want to stop doing this as well.

So that's what I've noticed so far. I have a few weeks left to go before cycling through the end of the collection. If I have any updates I will post them. Please let me know your thoughts on this challenge!

I started doing the same thing and didn’t last a week. Good job sticking to it.

I had thoughts on doing it when I retire. Then I realized I just want to carry the knife I want to carry until I want to carry something else.

I do not switch often like you do.

I can carry the same knife in my pocket for months at a time w/o giving it a thought.

But it's about time for a change now. Thanks for the reminder! ;)

What is it
Currently, a Spyderco Advocate that is due for a change.

LOL! I wasn't even carrying the Advocate the past 2 months. I was carrying a Real Steel Megalodon. The Advocate was the 1 before that.

Decided to switch to my extra Spyderco Gen 2 Police for the next few months.

Finally another Advocate fan. I bought it literally to sell because I am not a framelock guy, but this is my exception.

Here's another fan. I wouldn't mind carrying mine for a few months - it does everything well, and they did a good job of getting the detent right to accommodate both the thumb hole and the flipper deployment. Also, the finish work is something to appreciate - still one of my favorite grip textures.

I carry my XM18.5 to work or anyplace that has to do with me having to fix something, It's really only to carry and have cause I don't use it at all, I get promo knives from time to time from our parts guys, I beat on those.

As for my others a couple of CR's and a nice Lightfoot custom I rotate depending on the day ~ No Matter what I always feel like I am neglecting them if I don't take them for a ride in my pocket everyday 🤘

Your approach seems like a good way to decide what to keep and what to sell/give away.

I’ve been at trying to figure out my ultimate carries for well over 30 years now and I’ve narrowed things down quite a bit.

Currently, I’m big into carrying an SAK Compact in a CRK belt pouch as my second blade and lender.

For my main blade, I currently rotate between CRK small Sebenzas, carrying each until it needs to be sharpened. I’ve come to realize the drop points are my favorites (I have three of those). Once two are dull and I rotate to the third, I take the other two down to clean, grease, and sharpen.

On those rare times I dress up, I carry a CRK Mnandi in a pocket slip in lieu of the SAK and Sebenza.

So that’s it unless I’m in the woods - almost always an SAK compact and small Sebenza drop point rotation.

All that said, I have a Grimsmo Rask in the safe waiting for my birthday. I played with it a bit when it came and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my favorite. Time will tell how I rotate it, other than I doubt it goes off my property (knife laws in NJ are vague and I’m not risking confiscation).

All this makes me realize I should sell or give away most of my GECs, SAKs, and fixed blades.

Now that's a challenge!😀

Though not in such a scientific way, that's pretty much what I did with "My Personal Collection" knives. I quickly determined that carrying a fixed-blade simply was not an EDC option for me, all things considered. Then came the folding knives (including multi-tools). Yeesh! 😵‍💫 😱 I went thru Swiss Army, Kershaw, Gerber, Old Timer, Leatherman, the various OEMs [e.g. Cabelas] and what-have-you.

It came down to two. First, for such adventures as the various Caminos in Europe -- which we were planning before my body went kaplooey -- my EDC would be a Leatherman Squirt CS-4 (the one with the corkscrew). For everyday non-expedition carry it would be a Leatherman Squirt PS-2 (no corkscrew).

Apparently the entire Squirt line has now gone the way of the dodo. Pity.
