I've been carrying a pocket knife nearly every day for about 8 years. That's nothing crazy to most of you I'm sure but where I live I've pretty much never had it be an issue. Obviously I don't try to get on planes with it, but otherwise I pretty much carry one without fail everywhere I go. Bank, post office..wherever.
Well Saturday I went to a heavy metal concert in Columbus Ohio. For those of you who are familiar with heavy metal, this is the same venue where Dimebag Darrel was shot and killed about 10 years ago. To my recollection I have never been patted down at a concert before but it happened here and before he made it to my side pockets I realized I had a big ol pocket knife in there. I warned the guy and he told me I'd have to leave it in the car. My cousins fiance dropped us off so I told him I didn't have a car to leave it in and he replied that I'd have to leave it with the ticket lady. I wasn't sure if I should make her aware that it was a fairly expensive piece but decided to just play it cool. I hand her the knife, she chucks it in a drawer.
So I told the guys I was with to please try and help me remember the knife at the end of the show and they said they would. At various points during the show I checked my pocket for it, but when the headliner came on I pretty much lost focus on anything else and just rocked out. I also drank a whole bunch of beer. So at the end of the show, we are standing in the parking lot waiting for our ride when suddenly one guy goes "oh hey, you get your knife?" Thank god he remembered.
So I guess the moral of the story is be careful where you carry the knife!
