Almost ready to send my Scandi out for sharpening

I've a scandi Bushcrafter that got dulled and chipped in use. I've been trying to sharpen it using my edge pro. Making me a little crazy, it seems the scandi edge is not symmetrical or as flat as the edge pro would like it. The most frustrating part, using the course stone to remove the chips just seems to create micro-chips. Finer stones cut so slow, seem to have almost no effect. At this point I have two questions. Does anyone have suggestions/experience using the edge pro for scandi? Do we have any pros near NYC that can repair this?

Oh. right. My camera recently took part in a failed gravity experiment conducted by my 9 year old. So, no pics.

You should have no trouble whatsoever with that knife. First, get your profiles even. I know it's slow with Scandies because there is quite a bit of metal to remove, but once you get both sides nice and even, you will be set for a long time.

Don't worry about the perceived microchipping. It's not. You are most likely just seeing burr, and are getting there. Switch down to the 220 to make'er nice and smooth. Some folks would stop there- I don't know how fussy you are. If you go to the first stage of polishing with the 320, you will have a very pretty knife.

Lastly, increase your angle 3-5*, and give it a nice little microbevel. this is when you will see those "chips" disappear. Just a little bit at 600 will give you a smooth edge with a microbevel of about 1/32". That's all you want. Polish that with your 1000 grit, and you'll have done'er. Should be beautiful and sharp as hell.

Wow...I agree with grizzled- there shouldn't be any problem. How thick of a blade is your Bushcrafter? With a Scandi you should have an awesome flat spot that the blade should lay solid on.

Use the sharpie method- are you hitting the edge on both sides? How deep are the chips you're trying to remove? If it is a really thick knife, maybe you're just getting fatigued from the extra work that goes with removing so much metal. Which, in that case you need to stay focused.

I'd sharpen it for you for free, but I haven't gotten my Service Provider Membership yet. If I go that route soon, you'd have to ship it to me and back here in Iowa.

Keep us updated.
