Wow, couple questions.

Do you have to form the micarta while it's wet around the blade and let it set up?

And is the edge side of the sheath left gaped a bit to draw the knife straight back to get it out instead of conventional pullout?

Looks good

Interesting idea. It looks like a releasing agent was applied to the knife and the epoxy and canvas/linen molded on allowing it to cure to shape.

ban has it right....... but i use some of the most sophisticated products, and i still ended up with a knife stuck in a shell of micarta, it was a pain in the ass to grind it out, this time it worked great.... i am working on another method.....
jerry should be sending me a few blanks to practice on.....

You could use a rifle bedding kit for the epoxy and release agent. I've used vaseline on a few rifle actions as a release agent, it works every time with acra-glass, but if you buy the kit you'll get everything you need. I also use silly putty to fill in areas I don't want the epoxy seeping into. But, given your artistic abilities, I'm sure you have your own methods.

That does seem like a really heavy, complicated way to make a sheath. What's your plan for it? Just fooling around, or do you have an intended use?

Uhm... Blanks to practice on?!?!?! Man, you must be keeping the boss man belly deep in JWB to be getting those!!!

its not as heavy as my leather sheath..... i wanted to do something no one else has done.... but i do think there is serious potential in this sheathing system....

Try clear packing tape with a coat of carnuba wax for a release agent.

I discovered it doing a really poor mold repair and the taped area released better and had a smoother finish than the "good" parts of the mold.

the problem is not the release agent i use, the problem came in when pressure was applied ie the pressing, it sqeezed miro amounts of epoxy thru the release agent..... i solved that problem now.....

have a new ad sheath drying now, it is made of canvas, silk and acual copper filings...... should look cool
