I just received my DMT diamond stone over the weekend. I bought the 2 sided one, with coarse/fine. I've been wanting to try my hand again with free hand and this was my purchase to get me going again.
I took an old lock blade knife I had laying around that I received from a vender at work. Made by Zippo of all! Anyway, its made of stainless and rather hard. I started with the coarse side and did about 20 passes per side. I couldn't feel a burr, but deceided to move on to the fine side. I did about 20 passes per side on the fine and it sure felt sharp, but not quite there yet. I then took it to my strop and worked it for about 20 per side also.
Hair shaving sharp now! I was elated and couldn't believe I did it! My grind lines even looked good. I had just a little miss match on one side, but I though it came out really nice for my "first" time.
Now I'm pumped! Can't wait till I try again!!!
