Oh man! I'd be so excited! I remember when my KMG grinder arrived, I was like Ralphie in Christmas Story! I just received my first order of D2 bar stock this week!

good luck!, I to might be in toy heaven on a day like that, only I wouldn't know what to do with metal, now a good bandsaw and and some wood stock... :)

First two blanks ground out, a bushcraft style (I still hate that name), and an oversized Tin Knife. Just waiting for the oven............

At the risk of derailing this thread is it the "bush" or the "craft" aspects of the phrase that you "hate" or the just the entire phrase?
We could work on a better word for your knives in the category.

In a new thread of course :D

To me, "bushcraft knife" is a clever marketing phrase to attract buyers who are into "bushcrafting." The old timers called it woodcraft or just camping.

So there you go - call these knives (at least your knives) hunting/camping knives - easy enough. I completely agree though I usually call them woodscraft knives - note the added S. The S separates them in my mind from my woodworking type knives and tools.

OK - back on topic. I love getting and trying out new tools. I bet you are as psyched as you are nervous.

If you go to the:
Buck Knives web site and use their search feature with BUSHCRAFT you get nothing, if you use WOODSCRAFT YOU GET ONE (0690BKSTP-B TOPS/BUCK CSAR-T

Go to W.R. Case website and use their search feature with BUSHCRAFT-YOU GET NOTHING, WOODSCRAFT YOU GET, NOTHING, seems that they use the word HUNTER for most of their fixed blade offerings

Kershaw has no search but the words bushcraft or woodcraft are not to be found, they Prefer Camp Knife or Hunting Knife

Randall has a Bushmaster and a Woodsman, close.

Gerber has OUTDOOR, HUNTING & SURVIVAL

Seems to be no consensus with the big companies that hire ad agencies.

Suggest that we come up with a new term, something less Euro/Australian than Bushcraft, something more modern than Woodcraft and catchier than Camp knife

How about: George L. Herter's Improved Bowie Knife?
