There is a nice documentary on stagevu.com about Richard Proenneke, an American who in the late '60 of the previous century decided to live on his own in the Alaskan wilderness.
Besides his carpenter tools, he also took with him a camera to shoot footage of himself building a log cabin, fishing, and canoeing on the lake in front of his cabin.
He eventually lived in his cabin for about 30 years.

When edited this footage was made into a documentary called "Alone in the Wilderness"

Well worth viewing,

Nice. There's a true story film and book called : Into the wild
Its a great film and book. It's somewhat along similar lines, very interesting.

Into the wild and Alone in the Wilderness are not at all the same thing.
Into the wild was about Chris McCandless going to the woods with nothing but a crappy sleeping bag some rice and a pocket knife, then dying.
Alone in the Wilderness is about a man building a home on a lake in Alaska. He had a plane fly in to resupply him ever few months.
Chris McCandless was interested in leaving the human race completely. Which he did ultimately.

Both are very interesting tho.
