hey yall, I figured I would remind you that there is something to be learned from an Old Fart who made it work in Alaska.....All Im saying is, this man deserves respect.. If you havent seen the video.....Then RENT IT !! ....look carefully at the blades he packed..no handles, nothing special..just heads and blades....I contest to the fellow newcomers on this page to encourage buying quality from the start, learning the craft, and purchase your next blade on merit for the individuel's needs.

Watch that documetory people.!!!!!

What's you favorite part??????

...........................Mine is when he builds a door hinge and says it only took him a half an hour...

They show it on PBS often, and I've seen it many times. One of the best things I've ever seen on TV.

Dick was a master woodworker. His skills in that area, and his attitude was my favorite part.

I can't really pick one favorite part. :) If you google it you can find legit copies of the DVD to buy. It's worth owning.

I've watched the program numerous times. I received the book two years ago. It is also worth owning.

"One Man's Wilderness" by Sam Keith from the journals and photographs of Richard Proenneke

"I opened and closed the season with one shot."--Dick Proenneke

I really enjoyed watching this documentary...

I highly recommend the book as well. Great recollection of his life in the wild and fantastic pictures.

I think you can still find it on youtube.

Just parts of it, don't think the whole thing is on Youtube.

"Alone in the wilderness part ll" is a good clip on Youtube that starts with him making the spoon for Mary.

I've got the whole video downloaded. Question is if I upload it to youtube would they allow it, or would it be a copyright infringement ?

Great book and good documentary. Proenneke was a man's man. I can't recall if this was in the video but I remember in the book him talking about making the window casings for the cabin. Basically making them with nothing but a hand saw and having them turn out seems very impressive.

You could try it and see. I've almost bought it before, but it would be nice to pull it up from Youtube for free.
If you try it let us know what happens please.

Uploading now. I'll post a link when it's done.

Youtube wouldn't let me sorry fellas.
