Alox handle models disappearing?

Unless I've missed something, a perusal of the Victorinox Swiss Army website(s) seems to indicate that the Farmer is the only Alox handled knife to remain in the line. What a disappointment! Does anyone understand the rationale for all the other models being discontinued over the past few years?

Last I checked the only alox still being made are pioneers, farmers and cadets. There is a rumor they will all be gone at some point, but Vic hasnt said anything about it. My only guess as to why is that they must not make as much profit off that line. Can't figure why else they would reduce the offerings.

My quick check on the Vic web site came up with 10 alox models, although one of them, the Solo, looks like recently discontinued. I don't know how many are still being made, but all remain in their catalogue.

Yep, looks like the solo was discontinued; I picked one up on ebay (new) while I still could.

My Vic dealer was the one that let me know only the 3 models I mentioned are available to order from Vic any more, the rest all all gone for good.

I just tried again, searching under "Alox handle" and found only: Solo (on closeout), Farmer and Secretary.

Thanks, but that's one of the places I checked, going directly to "aluminum handle material" and found only the Farmer. What, if anything, am I missing?

I checked some Dutch webshops, mainly Pioneers, Farmers and Cadets. There are a few alox Bantams, some Electricians and a number of Pioneer variants like the Pioneer Rancher, but they are in minority. I think they're old stock.

Those models are little known outside the SAK / knife community. I think they're now concentrating on the 111mm SAKs which have seen some new models in the past few years and on the SwissTool series.

When I went to the Everyday site, I looked over several pages of offerings and found 10 alox models among them, among them Cadet, Electrician, Companion, Secretary, Pioneer, Classic and others. I don't know why the alox section you went to is so depleted. Maybe the ones I found are no longer being produced and these are remaining stock, but I really don't know.

Yes if anyone was thinking about grabbing a rancher/harvester/electrician/solo those were recently discontinued, no longer avaiable for restock from Vic, so grab em before they are gone. I bought out the last 7 harvesters from my usual source.

Does anyone know where to buy an Alox Bantam for a reasonable price? I already have one, but am looking to buy another one to give as a gift.
Please send me a PM if it's not appropriate to post the site here.
Thanks in advance...

Amazon was the last place I saw them. Not even any on ebay now. My vic dealer had 6 but I snagged all of those for mods. Sorry I havent seen any more around.

I ordered one from Deal Extreme (DX) a couple of weeks ago. They may have more.

Jeff

Thanks everyone! I was able to get 2 from Deal Extreme. Looks like the order went through ok. Appreciate the help.

I know this thread is old, but does DX carry any real Victorinox and not just counterfeits?

I have heard they carry genuine Victorinox, but why take the chance and why give your business to a company that sells fakes. You can probably find any model they sell for the same price from a legit dealer.

Victorinox is a strange and antiquated company. Seems like if they made a Farmer with scissors they'd sell the ever living heck out of it. Lots of low lying fruit like this for them if they would just rub the sleep out of their eyes.

You mean the highest sales, most modern, technologically advanced knife manufacturer in the world Victorinox, that one?

I have to agree with you... My guess is they do not follow the chats on the forums. If this is true it is just very short-sighted in this day and age.

Or they are marketing geniusses who create models that are almost exactly what you want, but not quite, so that you always yearn for the next, hopefully perfect model. :)
