Alox Sak keyring loops

I recently got a black vic pioneer and I love it, perfect tool assortment and very compact and sturdy. I was looking at it the other day and I noticed that the keyring loop has play in it. Not a lot but a fair amount of wiggle. Doesn’t bother me at all and it affects nothing but just out of curiosity I tried the loops on my cadet and farmer, and both of them were the same way. I tried my tinker and its keyring loop is as solid as the rest of the tools. Weird. I’m curious as to whether this is something unique to the alox models or just pretty normal for all saks. Also, how is it that such a well constructed knife with zero play in any of the tools has play in that one part? Like I said, it’s not a complaint, I just find it sort of interesting.

On some models the keyring attachment point is part of a spring, on others it is part of a catch bit. The catch bits can move a little, that's all.

Exactly what yablanowitz said.

Basically, if the keyring attachment is aluminum, it can have some play. The ones on, say, the Tinker/Spartan, etc., are integral to the stainless steel backspring, so they cannot have any play. AFAIK, the only Alox model whose keyring attachment is part of the backspring is the Alox Classic (and probably the same-sized Minichamp, etc.).

It isn't unique to the Alox line, some of the Cellidor models have the attachment point on a catch bit as well. Others have it on a spring, so you'd just have to go through each model to see which way it is made (and it may change over time as well).

Ooh okay, I understand. Well it’s not something that bothers me, I was just curious about why it was like that. Thanks for the info!
