I've been thinking about getting one or two of my Alox SAK's done up with a clip... have you done any in the past? Any pics? Also do you think the low-rider clip is the way to go with these? The knives in question would be a Farmer and a Soldier.

Thank you, Ski

Well, you know I've had them here and done a couple clip jobs on them. I don't think I have pics anymore or if I do I don't know where they are. Honestly I am trying to stop working on slip joints altogether and don't enjoy these kind of jobs. For one there isn't much there to work with in the way of reliable threading material. Its very tricky and difficult to make threads in something pinned and put together as these are. I get nervous each time someone asks me about it because of this because its so easy for things to go wrong when messing with this type design.

I'm not saying I'd refuse if you twisted my arm and really really wanted it done but if I had my ruthers I'd pass on anymore of them. Breaking a tap off is not fun and if that happened with one of these I'd be hard pressed to ever remove it and it could even interfere with the function of one of the blades or tools. Anyway, thats my take on it.

As to your question. No I really think a low rider stands up too tall and looks odd on these knives. Standard style seems to blend and be more invisible in the hand to me and if I did one for myself that is how I'd do it. I'm not sure where all my pictures of these jobs went to. For all I know there are some here in my forum. I've done one of each of the two knives you mentioned since starting this forum so I'll have to look. If I can find a link I'll post it.

Okay found the only one I have.

Again, if you twist my arm I'll see what I can do for you. Just be advised that there is risk on these types of jobs. I guess what I'm making sure of is that you know you assume the risk to go for it. So long as we are clear on that I'll do my best to knock it out for you but I really don't want to be buying a knife if it goes south on us from the attempt. Hope that comes off in a half way decent way.;)

The clip does look good... I won't twist your arm (but I reserve the right to change my mind later). The thing I really need to think about is if the clip would be a benefit or not. Most of the time when I go in the woods I don't wear pants with the right kind of pockets for a cliped knife of that size...

It would be pretty cool...

Thanks, Ski

didnt have the nerve to send him the trapperlock

Its always nerve racking for me to do after market mods to pinned folders. Not all have always gone well in the past! ;)

Looks like its held up well and been used to prove its worth though so I guess thats good huh?

I have the Mid Folding hunter out and have been using it some here lately. Its the cousin to that trapper lock model. Some of the guys seem to say they got some of those that don't lock up well. I picked mine up at Bass Pro in Tulsa and got to go through what they had behind the counter to pick the best one of the bunch. Mine locks up great with no play at all! I think they are good knives and rather like the blending of traditional with the modern in that particular knife. I guess I was thinking the Trapper Lock came with a pocket clip also but I guess not? I have yet to see one of those in person. Just seen pics. I just have two of the mid folding hunter models that have a factory thumb stud and clip on them. I had to get one of each when they came out you know, one in CV and one in stainless. Ironically I carry the stainless one the most. Go figure. :D
