After reading the locking SAK thread I started wondering if I might be missing any alox models.

Soldier
Electrician
Bantam
Cadet
Solo
Settler
Apprentice
Pruner
Pioneer
Farmer
Rancher
Electrician Plus
Harvester
Classic
Companion
Money Clip
Secretary
...Any others?

Paul

That's a pretty good list. I think that the "popular" is a red alox version of the pocket pal. There's also a red alox version of the pioneer as well.

I forgot to include the Popular. It has the "ribbed" alox like the Pioneer series. The Secretary has smooth alox.
Does anyone know if the Popular is still being produced? If so, where can I get one?

I think it is -
you might write e-mail to Paul Elsener (son of current owner of Victorinox) to ask for a quote
(Swiss/International model # 0.6901.20) -
chPaulUSA@aol.com

There is also a red (smooth) Alox 75mm version of the Secretary
(Swiss/international # 0.6700.10).

Still on Alox Victorinox SAKs there's a whole range of models called Pioneer-somethings - see these pages:

PWork,

Do you really own all those SAK's ?? If you do..wow..what a collection. You must like the Alox range a heck of a lot.

So, which is your favourite one out of these ?

I particularly like the Soldier...but that's the only one I've got in this range :D Which would you recommend after the Soldier ?

Regards

If you have the soldier, most of the others are just variations of that.
2 of them replace the can opener with another blade (an electrician's blade and a pruning blade)
2 more add a saw to these variations as well.
The farmer is a soldier with a saw and lanyard.
And then 3 of them are just one layered 2 blades.
I do have most of them and to date I prefer the following:

I like the electricians blade so I carry a 2 bladed apprentice with a multitool. Nice combo
I also like the farmer. (a soldier w/ a saw and lanyard). Those are my 2 favorites at the moment :D

tardis,
No, I do not have all the models. I have the alox Classic, Money Clip, Bantam, and Secretary in the smaller sizes. In the larger I have the Soldier, Harvester, and two Settlers. My next purchase will be an Electrician.
Since you have the Soldier, you might want to consider a one and three layer model. I carry the Settler practically everywhere, the Harvester in the woods, and the Electrician will be the two layer knife that sees the most use/carry time. I don't have enough use for the can opener to justify carrying it. The small sheepsfoot blade will be far more useful.
With the Settler (pen), Electrician (sheepsfoot), and Harvester (hawkbill) in my rotation, I have all three small blade configurations. I use the small blades more than any other implement on any SAK.

PWork,

I think you'll like the Electrician. It is a great daily carry knife. Works well paired up with a minitool like the LM Micra or Squirt S4 too. I have the one that has been sold in the U.S. for a long time. Does anybody know how it differs from the Electrican Plus? Looks the same except for the insignia and the date of manufacture engraved in the blade.

I also have the Solo, Apprentice, Settler, and Harvester. The only thing I'd like to see different is the large screwdriver on the Harvester replaced with a small three-sided file with a chiseled tip. It's almost optimized for wood-working already, might as well take it all the way.

I'd like to see a model with all three small blades in addition to the main blade. It would make a great whittler.

Paul

I got to play with the only alox model at a store. It was the soldier and noticed that the blade seem to be thicker and blade play is almost nonexistent compare to those with plastic scales. Are my impressions correct and are all alox models have this sturdier large blade?

TIA.

All five of my Alox knives have a larger blade, noticably thicker across the spine and wider from spine to edge than my Tinker or FieldMaster. I don't know how this compares to the main blade on the locking SAKs, since I don't own one of those yet.
