I picked up a Buck Alpha the other day, Model#B694-BK-0

It is marked with the Idaho state date code, but its in a different place than what I'm used to seeing.

Its stamped on the blade, before the Bck USA lettering. Most I have seen are marked after the model number on the ricasso.

Is this something they did different for the first productions out of the new Idaho plant?

Thanks !

If it has the outline of Idaho stamped on the blade, it's a 2005 knife. The idaho stamp is symbolic of the first year that Buck produced knives in Idaho (2005). - Jim

Hi Walkindude....

Believe the stamp was used for the entire 2005 year of production as with the other date stamps (Jim, or someone else, please correct me if I am wrong).

Scroll down to the middle of the page when you open this link: http://www.buckknives.com/collectors_vintage.php

There are some runs of "First Production" runs of some models out of Idaho and "Last Production" out of El Cajon as indicated by blade etching.
Here is a pic of those in 119 and 110 models:

Just realized that I need to take a better pic of those...

I believe that most of the Idaho stamps are to the left of the model number due to the height of the outline, and better layout design on the tang. Some are in different places tho..

I think the Idaho stamp was put where it would look best if space allowed. Here is my Idaho stamped 655:
