I apologize if this has been brought up before (I spend most of my time in the WSS section). I went back 6 pages and there was nothing.

A local dealer is newly advertising a Buck Alpha Dorado 271 in 154CM and Mossy Oak Breakup scales which I would like to buy. I already have a 270 in 420HC and I really like it. My question is- Are the Alpha Dorados made offshore or in the USA?

Thanks in advance.

Doc

My 271 is marked "USA" on the blade. I'm pretty sure the 420 version is USA made also.

Hi Doc-C,

The Alpha's are all made in the good old USA!!!! When you get your new Dorado please post a pic for us to see. It would be nice for you to give a report on the 154CM compared to your 420HC also.

Thank you

Thanks for the help, guys. Don't have a digicam, but I get the use of one every once in awhile, so if I get a chance, I will post a picture.

About a month ago I picked up a 2006 270 rosewood Alpha Dorado. Have carried it every day since I got it.
Yesterday my 2007 271 154CM arrived. (cost $48.00)

It was advertised as ATS-34 but has the 154CM stamp.
The quality is flawless on both knives.

The sheath on the 271 is burgundy leather and is of the same style as the 270 codura sheath. This is a great sheath design. You don't even know it's there. The codura sheath has held up very good as the loop stitching is well done.

Knife and sheath, individually and as a system, are perfect in form, fit, and function for me.

Cosmetically, the only thing, and it's VERY minor, is that the 271 154CM scales are not as nice and not as matched as the scales on the 270. WTH, it's not a LE run or anything and it will be an EDC. Just an observation.

These knives are impressive.

How sturdy is the liner lock on the Alpha Dorado. I really like the design (only seen pics of the knife). I've been told the liner is kinda thin...not that I'd get unbiased opinions, but what do you think?

Thanks,
:)

No problems with mine!
Great knife!! If they get too thick in the lock it is hard to unlock, besides all it does is brace the blade open.
Buy one you'll love it! :D

Hey PB...
The LL on the 270/1 is the same as the 298GY from what I can see. It's 1/16" thick. The 889SBMF LL is 1/8".

The Sirus 298GY lock has never failed on me and I've had that knife for, oh I guess, close to a year. Use it often.

Here you can see the 298GY, 889SBMF, and 271 Liner Locks:

The lock looks thick enough to me. It appears to be at least 1/3 the width of the blade. I guess it's probably hardened SS.

Thanks for the info and pics wh4f and Buckaholic.

No prob PlowBoy.
The blade on the 271, at the pivot, is just at 3/16"...1/8" Liner Lock covers 1/3 of the blade just as you stated.

Plowboy...

What Goose and Wh4f said.I also bought a 270 Rosie Dorado at
the bass pro shop in Garland and EDC it when I am wearing
my grown up cloths. I think you will like the lock ok.

I guess this means that next time I buy a knife I'll have to give the 271 a try.:D

Right now, I'm still excited about the custom 110 that'll be coming in 4 - 6 weeks. :D :D

I was out in the woods this afternoon (took a dang tumble into a deep ditch...fortunately I survived okay) and I kept thinking about being able to bring the BG42 110 with me in a month or so. In fact, I kept thinking that I could do a great pic here or there...problem is that I don't have a digital camera. Oh well, I guess I need to save for a digital camera too.

I'm extremely pleased with my Alpha Dorado with birchwood scales and cordura sheath. The lock up is very strong for a short bladed knife.

The sheath, as others have noted is an ingenious design, strong and easy for EDC and unobtrusive in use.

I'm very fond of this small but extremely well-made knife:thumbup: that can cover a lot of different jobs.Opening action is fast too.Nobody would be disappointed with this knife, just surprised it isn't better known!

QUESTION as I live in the EU where can I get a good on line shop for the Camo Dorado model please?

Thank you for the info:thumbup:

Think Ira Wood could be the one, they ship to Ireland so why not the rest of the EU? Nice product range too:)

The other two either have 100 dollar minimum order and or shipping starts at 36 dollar  Which is a little too much.

You're welcome

(Glad I included IW, I didn't know about the minimums at the other two...)

Well,

I've had my new Dorado for awhile - absolutely love it. Might have to buy another

Damn! :(

IMHO, the cases suck, though. I'm afraid I could lose the knife out of the case.

Doc

Cases? You mean the sheath? Seems preety solid to me but I admit I did put one on my belt in a rush, only to discover it was UPSIDE DOWN 2 hours later:eek: Still stayed put though. Still can't get hold of a camo one nobody responds to my e-mail enquiries:mad:
