Alpha Dorado Concern

Aight, this is my first post here so I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right section for this sort of discussion. I did a good bit of searching around to see if anyone had already weighed in on this but couldn't find anything.
I just got a Buck Alpha Dorado in the mail today, pretty thrilled about it when I first opened it. It's a beautiful knife imo, and I must embarrassingly admit that it's the most expensive one I own right now.
Well after handling it for a bit something's concerning me that I can't shake even though I'm trying to tell myself it's nothing. When it's closed I feel like there isn't really a lot of tension holding it shut. Sure it doesn't just fall open, but very little force causes the tip to be in such a position that it could snag on something rubbing against that side of the knife. If I enjoyed carrying a sheath this would be no problem, but I plan to carry it loose in my pocket and I'm a little worried about this.
Any clever solutions to this problem? Is this a normal problem for this model of knife or should I make an effort to return this one and get one that closes up more tightly?
Thanks for the input guys

They are made with no closing "snap" on purpose. They are designed to be opened with the thumb stud and if there was a strong spring to snap it shut and hold it closed very tightly, it would be difficult to open with the stud. Most linerlocks are the same in my experience.

You can use a torx driver of the proper size and tighten up the blade pivot screw, perhaps that will help.

I guess I'm just used to what I've got with my two Spydercos, an Ambitious and a Chicago. They're both liner locks too but I have no issues with them like this.

I don't have that problem with mine. And I second what Dave said about tightening up the pivot screw.

Try tightening up the pivot. From what you describe (Slight movement when closed) the detent is not providing enough pressure to hold it closed with no movement. Sometimes the blade being on the loose side can cause this, however most likely the detent countersink in the blade is to large, allowing movement. If the blade tightening does not work, plesae send it in to my attention and I'll get it fixed for you.

Thank you

I played around with the pivot screw, trying looser and tighter at different levels and it still doesn't feel quite right, I think I will send it in. Thank you very much for your help, and thank you for your consideration Mr. Hubbard.

It is on it's way back to you. I hope this works better for you. Liner locks are held in with a detent to hold the blade close. On a knife like this, if you catch the thumb stud just right in your pocket, it will overcome the detent. This is true for any liner lock. I carry liner locks as a preference and personally I would not like having one loose in my pockets unless it is one of the small one (IE gentlemen's folder). I carry ones with a pocket clip and have the belt clip orientated to have the blade side nested against the side of my pocket, so the blade cannot open in my pocket.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Jeff
