Anyone know how I can get a pair of the rosewwod alpha folding hunter (277) scales?

Ive looked at the website, and Ive called buck to no avail (I am told they are unavailable). I did see you can order the rubber scales for it, but I wanted the original rosewood scales. I could make them, but I really wanted the original rosewood. Its really sad you cannot get replacement scales for the rosewood :( ?

Keep an eye on ebay. I have seen a few show up there.

There may be some guys here that have put the rubber grips on theirs or modified them to be used without scales. They may have some. I put rubber grips on mine, but not ready to give up the rosewoods as yet.

Thanks I appreciate the tip. I did order a set of the rubber, but I would rather have the rosewood that originally came with it. Im really surprised buck will not sell them.

Did yours originally come with Rosewood? What happened to them?

It came with rosewood, but the scales are pretty marred up.

I see,,,

Mine too have a few scratches, so, using my experience restoring rifle stocks, I am going to lightly buff them with 0000 steel wool and then a few coats of Tru Oil. Works great for rifle stocks. Don't know why it wouldn't work on the scales.

Only thing might be the coloring. I haven't played with mine yet, so I may just apply a few coats of Tru Oil without doing the steel wool bit.

In any case, shouldn't be too hard to restore them if you don't get too aggressive sanding or steel wooling. If they aren't useable to you, nothing to loose.

Oh, if you haven't used Tru Oil, it is a Birchwood Casey product available usually at walmart in the hunting gun cleaning supply area.. Is a hand rub application. Pour a tiny bit out in a container and dip a finger in and rub it on. I usually apply several coats depending on how obsessive I am at that particular time. It will at least take two coats. Buff with the 0000 steel wool between coats. Note that is 4 - OOOO steel wool.. Very fine. Sorry if this is overload of info...

fwiw

Pack rat, thanks for the info, I do know how to restore them though (Ive been making knives for over 23 years). The scales have a few gouges, that are too deep.

I could make some new ones, but I prefer having the original scales.
