I have been checking out the Alpha Hunter Folder (Rosewood Drop point of course) on the net, and I am wondering how much dose it weigh and what kind of sheath it comes with (is their Pic of the Sheath somewhere?). This knife looks like a real winner! Thanks!

Frank,

Not sure on the specs, but the knife comes with a very nice sheath. The knife is heavy as hel* ... it makes my mini Strider look and feel small.

Thanks Mike,

I am very much interested in your impressions, how do you like it?

well, I received one yesterday and I have to say the qaulity is pretty good for a factoryknife. only one problem though the blade wobbles really bad. also it seems that the hole for the pivot pin is unaturaly too big for the pin (you can feel the play in it), it contributes to the wobble. now Ive heard someone who says that they have one and the lockup is good. so maybe I just got a lemon. the only other thing I could see a problem with is the lock goes almost off the tang to the right when its locked. the knife lock is a bit thin for such a beefy knife, I was suprised to see that the knife is much heavier than the 110 folding hunter. overall though with some minor changes it would be one sweeeeet knife!!! I guess i'll be sending mine back today, the last time I sent a knife to buck to be looked at, it took six months and mailing three times before they fixed it and made it right!

oh well...win some...lose some!!!

Thanks for the reply Rev,
Sorry to hear about the problems you have with your Alpha Hunter, I'm not in too much of a rush to buy, so I guess I'll wait 'till I see them in a shop, so that I can hand pick one. Also, I may not like it if it is too heavy. Thanks again.

My unbiased  opinion is that they are one of the better knives we have made. This is a knife that should last a lifetime! Sorry, I don't normally endorse our knives for fear of being called biased but i really do like these Alphas!
Rev,
I would bet that all of the issues with your knife have to do with a bad job of applying Loctight. We had a batch of these knives that did not get enough loctight applied to the blade pivot fastener. As a result, the balde will be loose, and the liner may travel too far across the blade broach area. As for the strength of the liner lock, it exceeds our standard on the break test.
I hope you will send your knife back, to my attention if you have not sent it already, so that we can fix the problem for you.
Take care,

I picked one of the folding Alpha's with the Elk Horn handles. It is absolutely one of the slickest kinves I have ever handled. It is a little on the heavy side but wonderfully designed and made.

thanks Joe I do appreciate that, but I did send it back yesterday to smkw where I bought it. I am somewhat weary about sending knives t buck. I had a new bucklite I had ordered in the mail and it came with rust on it. I sent it back, 6 weeks later it came back the same way i sent it. I sent it again, almost 8 weeks later it cam back and this time it looked like they took an abrasvie wheel or brush and sanded the rust off, it looked awful. I was pretty upset this time I could have understood if it was used, but it was new when I sent it, unused and unsharpened. I spoke to someone at buck who replaced it for me, in all this took almost a year to resolve. ever since then Im unsure as whether I can trust the customer service I came to know. I do appreciate your gesture, and Im sure you would make it right. I make my own folders, and I use loctite and I have to say if you dont set the pivot screw right after you apply the loctite it will create blade play (drying before its set right). Aside from the problems I had the only thing I would change about it is the liner thickness, and the blade stop pin size, the coupling sleeve is big , but the pin itself is kinda small. I may get brave and try another one, overall I was impressed with the care that seemed to go into the knife. the place I bought it from does not have anymore. maybe I might try it again someday, who knows.

I got my Alpha a week ago and I am blown away! I am going to be retiring my 103 this year and carrying the alpha full time.

Everything was as tight as you could ask, and the workmanship was flawless. The blade lock was kind of interesting - took me a minute to figure out how to unlock it. :) Now that I am used to it I like it OK, but I think I would have preferred it out of the way as I wonder if I could unlock the blade on myself during field dressing.

I love the sheath - rich brown leather and nicely compact. It is pretty much the same size as my 112/BG42 in the case but there is no comparison in size when they are side-by-side out of the sheath... the Alpha is twice the knife.

Just a note on Weight..

The Rubber handled Alpha weighs 2 grams less than a 110. It feels like it should be heavier, but the one I weighed were just a touch less.

We also have stopped using locktite in favor of a micro coated screw. There will be no future issues with not enough/too much locktite. And also unlike locktite, this micro coated screw can be adjusted without having to reapply. It will cure back up after a couple hours.

I used a prototype last fall on a 5x5 elk (someone else's)to help him cape it. With all the prying and worrying hide out of small places never once did the lock disengage or even feel like it. His dad had an old 118 and both knives saw use that day.

The new screws are a great find for this product and others we make. We were having trouble with locktite oozing after action was determined. It would then harden and gum up the works. We would ask what the heck are they thinking out there on the line to pass something like this, and then discovered, and solved, what was causing the problem.

It was a great solution coating the screws. That is what happens when folks totally devoted to knife making brainstorm solutions...

My hat is off to engineering, quality and the floor.
