hey guys i just joined the site...im usually wrapped up on my traditional archery forums...but BUCK knives are a huge part of my life. well over the last few years i have began collecting just alpha hunter fixed blades. to me they seem like the " ultimate " knife....hunting,fishing,survival, or whatever. i am interested in what you guys think! good, bad,or ugly:). and also your favorite one? i am currently thinking about special ordering a elk antlered one from bucks custom shop.

thanks guys

list of alpha fixed blades; cabelas alaskan guide series, rosewood, rubber, and 2 walnut handled ones.....and one with a deer silhouette cut into the blade

Hey bailebr3...
The ONLY thing I don't care for on the fixed blade Alpha is that there is no guard. I have a woody and am worried that when I cut something deep, that the object being cut will scratch/ding up the wood of the scales if I go nutzo.
I prefer the Alpha folder if I had to compare.
That being said though, you can't beat the full tang strength of the Alpha fixed.
Let us know what you end up getting :)

Long way to say, "GET ONE". You won't regret it.

Don't know about the fixed but the FOLDING Alpha Hunter and its small cousin the Alpha Dorado are excellent knives and somewhat overlooked. If you venture away from fixed blades then they are a rewarding choice.

I don't own a fixed alpha hunter yet, but the folding alpha hunter is really nice. Also just a heads up on something a little different.... Buck had a fixed blade called the "Big Sky" a few years ago. It is the same general style as the fixed hunter but different lines/geometry. I'm sure someone here has a pic.

Hi bailebr3,

I would recommend that you get any Alpha with stag..or an Alpha with anything!!!! I love mine :).

yes i have one and agree with willgoy
oh yes! and what goose said...

wow!! jb4570!! those are some nice alphas and i really like the minis...i only have one mini but i really like it. so are those alphas from the custom shop or regular production

I believe that most of JB's are limited edition or special production. (not really regular production :D) It looks like there may be a Bob timberlake? chipflint blade from cabelas also! Maybe an award knife or 2?
I don't notice any custom shop knives though? Correct JB?

I haven't owned an alpha I didnt like! My favorite is a folding alpha, in S30V.
My wifes favorite is also the folder in the Pro line series.
My favorite fixed blade was one with rosewood grips and ATS-34 steel. Scary sharp!
My only problem is well, I love the Vanguard and zipper, (I guess kinda "old school") and the alpha seems like it was intended to be the replacement to the 191 and 192 somewhere down the road... (to me anyway) ;)
I now only own the one folding alpha. The rest are vanguards. (191, 192)

Sorry I got off on a tangent, I agree with Buckaholics post about the guard!
Don't forget to include pics of your new custom shop alpha! I think we have yet to see one on here? Lots of C.S. 110's though!

Hi Bailebr3,

Jim is correct. These are all special order knives form various Buck customers. Bass pro shops seemed to put out the most special order buck's (at least in the Alphas in this post). None of these are from the custom shop....they are only producing Custom 110's and custom Alpha 193's....I don't own any 193's yet!!!! These are all 194's, 694's and 196's. I do have a few folding Alphas also.
