I just received a #694T fixed blade w/ laminated rosewood scales in a trade, like new, beautiful knife. The previous owner stropped the edge for me, and it is 'hair poppin' sharp'. There are no markings on the blade to indicate the type of steel, although I was told it is ATS 34. Doesn't matter - all Buck steel is good, useable steel, but any info from the experts on what steel it is would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Jeff

Jeff, Welcome . I guess you don't have the box ? If it was one of the higher end steels its usually marked on the knife blade . But I can think of an instance when they were not . Normally, a blade marked as yours, is 420HC . Though there are exceptions . DM

The T indicates that it was made in 2003. The catalog that year shows the 194 having rosewood handles and the ATS-34 blade steel. The 694 came with either a rubber or walnut handle and came with a 420HC blade. If yours doesn't have the Bos ATS-34 stamp or etch on it, then it should be 420HC.

 A picture would also show whether it was walnut or rosewood also. I have seen people confuse these handle materials in the past. Either way, like you said Jeff, its a great knife!!!!!!!!!!!
