Hi there! Went for a one day hike with my oldest son this Sunday . Sky was a carpet of stars and temperatures around 0°C in the plains around our home when we hit the road heading for the mountains, around 0630. The idea was to hike one rather easy trail which we nicknamed the ponds trail
, since it goes around and about a number of small lakes, natural and manmade. Its a trail we normally travel in the summertime, beautiful for the flowers blossom and the many marmots. As we took the trail from the village (1110 meters altitude) we started to feel the winter bites
. Temperature -7°C and the breeze was sharp as a razor. The sun started to come out and, by progressing, we warmed up. Scenery was amazing and ice somehow decorated the landscape. A big difference between the areas exposed to the sun (South-East) and those in the shadow (Nord-West)! We found a couple of artificial lakes, those with a dam, which have been emptied. An unusual look. Temps went up in the morning and around noon it was a +2°C in the sun. But wind was still blowing pretty harsh. So we sat, protected by a big rock and had a quick lunch just looking at the beautiful mountains and the valleys. We didnt set up any camp and fire this time, not so much wood around and we kept walking to keep warm
. I just had my Opinel with me which basically saw no real action (just opened up a couple of trail mix bags and sliced a pie). Highest elevation we reached was 1850 meters. Back to the car by 1600. A good day! Some pics just to share!
