This thread should actually be titled: "Damn you, Mistwalker, this is all your fault!"
Ever since seeing that SOG Team Leader and how well designed the saw was, as well as Misty's effing "A" review, I've been thinking about this knife.

Actually I'm torn between two..three...a hundred.

I'm about to break my vow of knife celibacy. I feel so dirty.

I'm in a 4-5" knife mood.

I really like the RC-5, but I just don't know about a .25" thick, 5"long blade. I've been thinking about one of those fancy steak knives (maybe one of Dan Koster's, I think I'll check out Fiddley Diddley's since I love Andy's work all to pieces) all you fellers show around, but I just don't know.

SO TALK ME OUT OF BUYING ANOTHER KNIFE!!

(I'm actually thinking of just ordering some wool stuff since I don't have any wool. But I don't do a lot of winter camping, so I don't know why I'd need it...)

God I hate it when I do this...:grumpy:

Buy the Team Leader...you don't need the wool since winters almost over and the the Rat 5 will be to thick for slicing.

And saw backs are just cool!

If I was gonna put that much money down, I'd just buy one from the makers here on the forum, or I'd just get the rc 5..........JMHO...

Buy at RC-4, cheaper and not as thick as the RC-5 and it right in the middle at 4.5"

Mist's posts do have that effect.:D

If it were me, I'd get the RC-5 or a Becker BK-2, but that's just me: I like thick, heavy, indestructible knives. If you haven't tried one, maybe you should.:D

The RC 5 is not really ideal for anything, but great for many things. There is not one thing I can honest say it does great at, aside from batonning smaller logs. That said, I really love mine, as I also like thick blades.

I would suggest the RAT Cutlery product as the better product...

And I introduce the following line to demonstrate that which we should not discuss in this thread... : )

Best,

One assumes you're talking about SOG vs RAT, in which case I agree with you, although — when it comes to thick knives — I have to throw the Becker BK-2 into the mix. Becker or RAT would be my first choice: I am not a fan of SOG knives (although some are interesting, I won't buy one).

Yeah, I think the Becker are great, but I would not own one, unless I got the micarta handles, in which case they would rock!

Get the SOG! Its a sawback that actually works and we'd all like to see more pics of this great knife!

The RC-5 can wait, as its just another knife to your collection. The Teamleader has the saw which is enough to set it apart from the rest of your knives.

While I like the handles on the Becker's (they're comfortable and provide a secure grip), you're right: the micarta can make them an order of magnitude better.
