Couple of questions for ya. Why are the prices on Emersonkinves.com more expensive than other kinife sites selling Emersons? Are they seconds or older knives? What is the difference between combo edge and straight edge? I have a cqc7b and am thinking about getting both a mini comander and a cqc 8. Also, what is the best sharpening tool to get for these knives. Thanks for the help.

Emerson supports a wide dealer network by not competing with them. All knives at the Emerson site are offered at list price. This is a common practice followed by most reputable manufacturers.

There are times when some knives offered at the site are not available elsewhere. This is true of all Emerson Collector Association knives of the year. Currently there is a limited release of the now discontinued CQC-7A.

Plain edge is a full plain edge while most models also come in part serrated. Be careful when you see the words "combo" such as in the HD-7 model. This refers to a combination grip where the lock side scale is titanium and the non lock side scale G-10.

The Emerson site has a good tutorial on sharpening.

nicely said...

I would like to add this...

GOOD LUCK STOPPING THERE!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Get a 7a while you can, since they've just been re-released, and also pick up a 10. :D :D :D

I think the 7A is my favorite Emerson knive...perfect
The 10 is also a beauty, one handed opening like butter, cool handle shape and perfect blade size for a utility EDC knife.
Just got the CQC11 SF Blackhawk today OMFG!!!

Nice. Good choices. They're both awesome, let us know what you think when they arrive.

I just got a CQC8 with a black blade, wave, and serrations. I love this one, and so does my buddy (who usually doesn't care for Emersons). I've also got the Commander, a PSARK, and my trusty CQC7. I love them all. I really don't have a favorite. I just ordered the Super CQC7 with a satin blade...I think I've got a problem...

I am also bidding on a green handled mini cqc7, and am considering a specwar also with green handles... I do have a problem. BTW, GBeninati, I was outbid on your specwar on ebay...I was pissed. Rightfully so, sweet knife.

Does anyone know where I can get a new Emerson CQC-7A SFS? It is really hard to find one of these. I don't think that I want a chisel grind because of ease of sharpening. Comments?

i would much rather have the tanto version of a '7 than a spear point version myself, as far as sharpening its easier to sharpen a CG vs a std "V" grind, the spear points not a std "V" grind anyway, its very similar to a CG regardless of what they choose to call it imho more similar to a CG than a std "V".

why do i prefer the tanto to the SP? mostly aesthetics, just like the look, but also i find the SP EKI's more difficult to sharpen than the CG, also emerson to me means tanto, in a '7 anyway. i have had 3 EKI SP's, 2 specwars and a SOCFK, got rid of all of them, not that they are bad, just not for me, i like the '8, '10 and they are not tantos, but the '7 should imho be a tanto.

TO ME anyway.

artis, try pvkat. He's got CQC7As in beadblast, serrated- just picked one up meself. Good luck.

Looking into the SOCFK and Super SOCFK, can someone kindly give me a size reference that I might be able to judge just how big they are? I want a nice, large folder with some good heft, but nothing TOO huge. Thanks. :D

Cheers!

Samson

IIRC the SOCFK is 3.5" and the super is just under 4" neither one is "too" large imho, i used to carry a SOCFK quite a bit FWIW.

the SOCFK is about the same size as a CQC7.
