Dadblastit to a moo-cow!!

Its time to talk to people who know something about my problem--who better 2 ask than a bladesmith?

I redesigned the canadian crutch--meaning I took what I thaught were almost all of the weak spots outa the damn things to make them better for self-defense use/martial arts training purposes.

A friend of mine and I built them. To make a long story short; the amin single bar of the instrument is 4 ft long constructed of 316 stainless sched 10 tubing to make it easier to get around on while still having enuf "authority" if ya wack a terrorist in the cranium. :D :D :D

I dont know if Im uzin the correct terms here but here goes:

I can wack a tree w/ these monkeys and they still warp. They each weigh about as much as 2 aluminum crutches apice. Original design was sched 40 but too heavy at the time (2yrs ago) now I can run on them.

IS there anything--a compound I can pour in them etc--open to almost any Idea within reason--anything I can do at all--to prevent the warpage. I believe thats called shear strengh.

What does this havta do w/knives u ask--I was thinking about a gravity fed bayonet---If i could just get around the rubber crutch tip problem...thx

The problem is you need pipe that wont bend and stay bent. Try using titanium next time and fill them with lead shot to add weight. As for the bayonet just pop off the rubber with your good foot and make it spring loaded instead of gravity. Also have you considered putting a knife under the arm pad? How about a pistol barrel in the hand rest...how about a pistol in each hand rest?

I had a friend who played defence in lacross. He would stuff the aluminum shaft of his stick full of rags to keep it from bending. heavy, but it worked.

titanium would be cool. Carbon fiber would work good too if you can afford it. Les halpern used to carry 1" diameter carbon fiber rods.

having a hard time visualizing what your building, a little late in the day, but what about fiberglass? When I worked in the sign buisness on some bill boards we would stretch a vinal fabric face over the existing metal bill board face and use fiberglass rods top and bottom and ratchet straps to cinch it down. I managed to get a couple of the rods and cut them down for use as 'cow pokers' on the farm. The ones I have are 3/4" dia and so far I haven't been able to break one even on the meanest cows head. though they are a little heavy.

From my experience, tubing usually has to kink before it will take much of a set bend, once it kinks the wall loses its strength.
You might try using the pipe you've got now and slipping a peice of schedule 40 PVC pipe down the inside, make it a tight fit. The PVC won't kink, or take a set bend. It actually can take quite a beating. With the steel over the top of it to keep it from shattering it should be pretty dang tough. Don't know about how heavy that would be though.

Have you thought of a cattle prod/stun gun tip for it? :D

Done all that Bruce :o

If the problem is that you keep bending the thing, use square tubing and find a piece of 1/4" bar stock that will Span the diagonal (corner to corner ) in a snug fit. You may have to file it a bit. Epoxy it in and fill the rest of the void with expanding insulation like that sold at Home Depot. When that cures, soak it with fiberglass resin. The foam will absorb the resin and become very solid.

When you hit something, use the reinforced edges.

Good Godz Gravy guys--keep goin!! where can I get 3/4 in titanium sched 40 or 10??--gotta watch the budget--and im not sure my blacksmith can weld titanium--Id hafta ask!!--shotgunz--bayonets--House of 1000 corpses... :p

Dont have a good foot to pop rubber off with--this is a standard jumbo crutch tip..cant pop the sob off w/o a vise... If youre lookin at a standard canadian crutch; I secrued the grips w/ Magic Wrap; stuff works better than slugging grip and threadin for screwz and washers to hold it on...a canadian crutch is the one that cuffs around the forearm and there is no armpit support.

I dont live in canada;Ive just heard them called canadian--

Lofstrand is the name of the crutch. The art is a hybrid akido;jujutsu;TKD and dim mak--dammmm things are GOOOOOD for DM strike points; Ive got CP so balance is also an issue--

shotgunz--bayonets--House of 1000 corpses...

If you are in Kanadia Eh, you aren't allowed to play with these! :footinmou

okie dokie...I guess I will have to bite....I am Canadian...but have no idea what this thread is about...what are Canadian crutches?

....hmmmm...maybe we just call 'em crutches.... :D

Dean

Reading in between the lines Dean, I assume he is either talking about a defense cane or maybe a defense crutch

At any rate an impact weapon of that type.

just curious, what do you need a concealed weapon like that for? the way you describe your actions, you don't sound like a cripple. you fly often?
