I've been a Spyderco man for the most part this year...haven't bought a benchmade in maybe eight months now. But...all that's changed. I played with four or five new Benchmades today and....I've switched. This is going to be a year of rediscovering Benchmade for me.

I did the same thing 3 or 4 years ago, as I found more "lefty-friendly" folders that were Benchmade (Axis-locks, switchable pocket clips) in the style of folders that I was looking for (such as my BM 805s). However, Spyderco still makes some excellent knives. As far as fixed-blades go, it would be a hard choice between my Benchmade Nimravus and my Spyderco Temperance.

Oh, I still love my spydercos, got a dodo on me right now, it was just it seemed like I only bought spydercos for quite a bit of time and a benchmade drought, and it looks like it's turning the other way now...I'm pretty excited though.

Basically setting out to have the newest--most upgraded(hopefully) version of both the BM Grip---Mini-grip and Spydie Endura---Delica.

I think you would be hard pressed to beat any of those 4 choices as far as overall value and function.

Setting the wheels in motion on ebay as we speak.

it's funny how knife tastes change, last year i was tactical boy and this year i'm traditional guy, who know's next year may be box cutter dude. the neat thing about knives is there are enough styles/patterns and brands to keep you busy a long time. later, ahgar

I got tired of waitng for some new Spydies to get up here, so last week, I also ended up with a BM - a 710 in D2:D Now, I have more than few larger folders, including the Endura, but for daily stuff, I normally don't carry larger folders on me. So here I am trying to figure out how to include this in my pocket EDC stuff... I do have my Grips and love'em - Mini Grip is one of me EDC's - love my Spydies - EDC a Delica 4, BUT this is my first BM past that. This is one NICE folder:p

Agreed about tastes changing - I've been on a Spydie spree for the last year but I'm also one that wants to touch and feel first. The dealers here don't always get stuff here quickly, so when I'm in that mood....sometimes I find something else. That's how I started with Spydies - just couldn't find what I was looking for, money burning a hole in my pocket...... I had kinda decided to get away from larger folders - I felt I had enough - most common ones - Endura 3 and 4/SERE 2K/Rat 1/887 SBT just to mention a few. I guess I shouldn't have fondled the 710.... Now, both the 710 and my previous purchase a Ka-Bar/Dozier D2 Black Thorn were more accidental discoveries - I had always wanted these, just not immediately - interestingly, the intent was to pick up a new Spydie if they were in. Funny how those tastes do change. I had to order some small parts from a knife vendor and added a folder kit to the order - I haven't done a kit in a couple of years - thought it might be fun to try one as a diversion from work:)

Hi Artfully,

Kind of the same thing happened to me. I had bought one BM before (710 m2) and it just didn't grow on me like I thought it would and it found it's way out of my rotation. Then I found an 814 AFCK a couple weeks ago and I fell in love, and now I'm reexamining Benchmade again. Still like my Spydies though (Got an Atlantic Salt on the way :)

I started out loving both companies and owning a decent amount of both, and slowing sold all my BM aside from my Morpho because comparable Spyderco models just work better anf feel better for me. However, I'm really Eyeballing the wharny Gravitator and Rukus right now, and I'll always love their balis.

Hey, you can't go wrong with either company. I'm just glad you didn't say that you admire the way Lynn Thompson fights in Proof.

Hey, lay off Lynn Thompson! I'm selling all my Spydies and BMs to buy beer and pizza so that I can match up to Lynn's level of physical perfection.

And to stay on topic...I recently sold a Benchmade Ares 730 that I wish I had back. I just didn't carry it that much and for some reason I just couldn't get the 154CM steel to sharpen worth a durn. Like most folks on this thread have said, both Spyderco and BM are quality companies. I'm just leaning towards Spydies right now. C39 Mini-Dyad is my fave knife ever.

I just find it interesting how I, maybe some of yall, can switch for six months-a year pretty much overnight. I didn't even look at Benchmades, aside from the Morpho, I even remember some of my old posts mildly against benchmade which I then found to be a bit repetetive in their lineup. Then, wham, over a couple weeks I started finding them really interesting again and now there are only a couple Spydercos on the list this year. That Captain looks really interesting and the Yojimbo has been on the list for awhile if I dare risk the compression lock again.
