Someone asked about the value of Regular Sebenzas vs current production so I thought I'd ask about Classics.

Do they hold any additional value over current production given same condition, the presence of birth card, etc.?

I ask because I recently picked up a small classic and have the chance to pick up a large classic, both at fair prices. I just wondered if they held any additional or reduced value other than to someone that just wanted to say they had a Classic?

For me, given similar condition, I would pay slightly more for a Classic vs a 21. Reason number 1: they are discontinued and out of production. Reason number 2: the wider chamfer for the thumb cut out and the rounded lockbar for lock release are pretty sweet!

If i remember correctly , my classic had a different (thicker) tip profile, which i liked more as well. I wish i stil had my classic.

I don't think as a general rule they hold any sort of premium like the regular versions, they are too similar to the current production. I personally never cared for the classics becasue I didn't like the large engraving on the handle. However, there are plenty of people out there who liked the classics and might pay a premium for a nice example.

A like new classic micarta will definitely fetch a little more than the standard 21. But not too much more.

Thanks for the feedback. It's pretty much what I expected. I have considered putting mine up for sale a couple of times recently but every time I take the pics I change my mind and put it back in my pocket. Same happened today after seeing the soon to be released baby 25. I decided I'd sell my small classic since it will see little carry time once the newbie arrives. I took it outside and took the pics ... then put it back in my pocket.

It's hard to say why, but I prefer the Classic to the 21. I completely sympathize with what's going on for you. ;)

To appease myself I listed a Ritter Mini-Grip. I feel better having let something go. :D

The highlight at BLADE today for me was meeting Anne Reeve and Tim Reeve at the CRK booth. Chris was walking around so I didn't get to meet him. I talked to Anne for a long time and she was showing me the Inkosi.

What was even better than that though was when I pulled out the small classic Sebenza from my pocket to compare the size difference between it and the Inkosi I showed Anne where someone had done some custom file work on the spine in place of jimping. She took the knife and was inspecting it for quite some time. I bought it second hand without box or papers and the previous owner knew nothing of the file work or who had done it, etc. Anne was really looking it over pretty hard and I'm expecting she's going to tell me it's a fake or something awful. Nope. She said, "I'm pretty sure we did that in the shop." She said they had done a couple of them like that. She said she couldn't say 100% for sure but Chris would prob know. AWESOME news. I guess this little unique one is a keeper for sure.

Tim was also great to talk to. He's the son of Chris & Anne. He was super friendly and my buddy asked him about the Inkosi and if he thought they would ever do a Insingo version. He said they might. Said they were just focused on getting these out the door first but it's certainly something they will look at when they can. That was AWESOME to hear as I love the Insingo blade style. He gave us a couple of patches each. Super folks.

Here's a crappy quick shot of the file work.

Very very nice to hear, love that the Reeve family is so nice to talk to.

Awesome story! Beautiful jimping! If it were mine, I'd consider sending it to the spa and get a reissued birth card that notes the jimping.

I might do just that. I called them once to ask if they would even spa it with the file work having been done. I knew mods voided the warranty but wasn't sure if they would spa it still. They said they would. It's even cooler to know they prob did the work themselves. I was stoked.

That's the coolest jimping ever. Looks factory. If it wasn't factory they would have had to grind the old jimping off, which would have changed the height of the spine. I see no evidence of that, and the curve and bevel on the heel of the blade is perfect.

I'd say that is a very special piece of CRK history.

That's pretty much what Anne said too. To paraphrase she thought it looked too good not to be down in house. Around the edges and stuff especially.

That is indeed some SWEET jimping. If CRK would authenticate that it is their work it would be even sweeter. Like others have said, it looks too good to NOT be their work!

At some point I'll send it in for a spa and see if they can/will authenticate it with documentation. I will prob just wait until I feel it needs a good sharpening and do it then. Right now, it's too happy in my pocket to worry about.
