Alteration to the Sebenza 21's Guide Hole?

Good evening,

I noticed something of interest on a recent Sebenza purchase of mine - a Large 21 w/ Polished blade and gold hardware, direct from CRK. As is my usual ritual for a new knife, I went through the whole piece, action, and lockup, trying to find an imperfection. It is no surprise -- I failed to find one. :) Interestingly, though, when I held it next to my Large 21 Insingo, purchased from KSF, I noticed the machining guide hole in the scales is different. The location and diameter seem to be the same, but the beveling is significantly different.

Insingo -> A15 scale -> wide beveled hole, the one to which I am accustomed
Sebenza -> B16 scale -> small beveled hold, almost as if matching the lanyard hole

A15 on top; B16 on bottom

I have no preference between the two, but I did find it a curious observation. Has anyone else noticed this on more recent Sebenzas? Do we know of a specific date of changeover, or could we nail down a close estimate with the collective knowledge and knives here? :)

Cheers!

My latest purchased in late June with a presentation side marked A-16 and the lock side B-16 and it has the narrow bevel. Maybe just a tooling change to simply the production sequence?

My Small 21 Insingo has slabs marked B-16 and has the smaller hole.

My Large 21 Insingo has slabs marked D-15 and has the bigger hole.

Hope that helps narrow it down.

My knee jerk reaction is to like the larger hole better. But honestly I probably would have never noticed either way. And without having the two side-by-side, I doubt it would bother me at all. But just looking at the photo above, I am drawn more toward the old style. Probably because I'm used to that look.

Even with both side by side, it's difficult to notice. The photo makes it seem more obvious than it is. I'm kind of shocked that TC spotted it, honestly. I never would have.

We should all E mail them and get them to change it back! I'll never buy another CRK.... oh wait , I like the new hole better... look , I saved a whole new thread!

Hah. The new hole actually does look insignificantly nicer, IMO.

Wow TC - you have eagle eyes!

Thank you all for your replies! I am certainly guilty of over scrutinizing any new knife I purchase, which is a testament to CRK, since I own more of their knives than any other. Without trying to find something, and owning another for comparison, I probably would have never noticed the change :)

dwdickey and Anarchy84, with the help of you and your Sebenzas, it would seem that the change occurred at the end of 2015/beginning of 2016.

On one hand, I am accustomed to the old bevel. On the other, I enjoy the uniformity the smaller bevels provides to my always-empty lanyard hole.

A16 Large Insingo....

Not sure how this answers any questions?!

That helps narrow it down another quarter; thank you! So the switch occurred between the A16 and B16 scales; seemingly at the end of the A16 run, since dwdickey has an A16 with narrow bevels.

Speaking of holes, I always wondered how it would look without it...

I've never minded the hole on the Sebenza. For me, it's just a part of what makes it what it is - a trademark of sorts.

Is that top Regular one without the guide hole, or is that a really good Photoshop edit?
