Altering the Deli or End?

They are both legendary Spydercos' and Sal obviously is on top of his game. But, just for fun if you could make the Delica 3.25 in length or the Endura in 3.50 what would be your personal preference?

The Delica was my first Spyderco and the rest is history. I always thought it was the perfect EDC for my work as a welder. I recently gave the Endura a chance and I'm really liking it despite the size. I sometimes wonder if it was 3.50 that it would be nearly perfect for my needs.

Has anyone else thought this before about these two flagship knives? This thread is just for fun, we all know how excellent they are.

Michael Janich offers up some custom ground Endura on his website that are shortened to 3.5. He's in Colorado and the limit is 3.5, of course he uses his as a defensive knife and slightly wharnys it for this purpose.
Personally I find my medium ground of the Delica and Endura in the Stretch as many others do. I love both the D4 and E4 but I find the Stretch to just be more well rounded being able to tackle more work than the other two.

If I wanted a short blade I'd buy something that already has one, but as CryoGuy mentions there are pre-mods out there. Kahr Arms is another option, but much shorter than you specify.

I guess if I came home from work and a thug with a ski mask was holding my girl and/or cat at gunpoint and threatened violence if I didn't agree to carry a modded Delica or Endura, I'd pick the Delica. The Endura has a lot of handle to hold it's large blade, and I wouldn't want all that unused plastic.

There is only one change I would like to see to the Delica, and that is a stop pin on the lock. The Endura has 2 changes I would like to see: A stop pin on the lock and that middle finger bump ground down. The blade lengths are perfect, as far as I am concerned.

Yes, yes, and yes. To recap, the Delica was my first, my most recent was an Endura, and I've always thought about a larger Delica as being just that much better than the existing model. Whenever I've mentioned that before, however, everyone seems to point towards the Stretch. Ha, maybe next year. :)

One last thought - I love the Delica, but what if it had digicam (or any color, really) G10 and a compression lock like the PM2? I'm a big fan of the mid lock and FRN, but it just sounds cool. Ha.

Holding my new Endura yesterday all I seemed to notice was the hump

I carried an Endura daily for several years as my first Spyderco. I never noticed the hump until now (as luck would have it, I m carrying it now.) It doesn t bother me.

The good thing about the FRN Endura is that the hump is easy to file down. I did this to mine and it fits nicely, now. My hands are very thick so the hump hits my middle finger dead center.

One thing I wish for the Delica is for a black G10 version, or a blue wire carbon fiber.

I'd love to see the blade length on the Delica increased to about the same as the Caly 3.5, while keeping the overall size as small as possible. Being that they were able to do it with the Caly 3.5, I'm sure they could do it.

I'm perfectly fine with the current blade lengths of both knives, but I see room for changes that I'd call improvement. Theoriginalspaceman has managed to add a finger choil to the Delica via a redesigned scale- which I personally think will be a major improvement. The first Spydercos I ever handled (PM2, Manix, Native, and Stretch) all featured excellent choils. When I finally handled a Delica, it felt functional, but primitive in comparison to Spyderco/Sal's subsequent designs.

I've been wishing for a 3.5" Delica, essentially a Delica XL.

Then I discovered the Stretch and Caly 3.5.

Wish fulfilled.

I like those models, especially the Caly 3.5. It was my favorite Spyderco for a long time, you get so much blade length of VG10 goodness in such a small G10 package.

I started out by making a 15n20 blade for my delica, then snagged an ffg from the exchange and did a dedicated shorty.
I like it a lot, both for utility and social work.

I altered a Caly 3.5 to get what I jokingly call my 3.5 Delica .
Its a great knife that proves that you can get a 3.5 inch blade into a knife that is no bigger than a Delica when closed .

Ken

I really want a Caly 3.5, because it looks on par with the 940, which happens to carry better than anything else. I'd have to get new scales for it though, first.

It'll take some effort/skill to replace the scales with the pinned construction.
If I remember right you dislike the looks of most CF? They made a G10 Caly 3.5... getting harder and harder to find them, though.

Love the look of that. Big time!

Yeah Ken, have seen you post that before and you definitely created one lean mean Caly dream right there.
Looks way closer in proportion and lines to the original Calypso than any of the Calys ever did.

Like the Delica the way it is, feel like I have a lot more control with a 3" blade. Always thought the Endura was a little too big even though I love the Military in every way. The ergos were never right for me with the Endura.
