There seems to be allot of interest in chest pack for carrying extra gear while wearing a backpack or housing a weapon while hiking. I have been fooling around with an low price alternative that some might be aware of.
I picked up a Red Rock Rover sling pack as a light weight fishing pack last year. Worked great for minimal gear and I like how I didn't have to lug a big box or pack around when walking around ponds or lakes. I also wanted something cheap in case I didn't like.
The pack is meant to be worn on your back with one a single strap and using the secondary smaller strap to stabilize the load. But rotating it around and stowing the secondary strap it wears like a chest pack.
Mil-spec monkey does a really good review of the Maxpedition Remora (the Rover is a clone of it). One thing to note, his photos of him make the pack look huge. It's not (he is small).

Also our own Warrior did a nice review of how he uses the Rover. His post about the bag prompted me to try it.

Pics of my bag...
The back just like the Lunada and Remora has a pocket with velcro for holster.
Sides have molle for extra pouches, etc.
The rover carries just enough stuff, weapon and even a water bottle if you get creative.
For around $30 plus shipping you can have a decent chest pack that can also be worn as a small daypack.
Hopefully this helps some folks on a budget!
