Hey all! New here. Been mainly a Benchmade collector up until now, primarily due to AXIS. I'm interested in other companies that utilize a locking mechanism that doesn't require your thumb to enter the blade's path when closing. I realize this is more of an OCD thing, but I'd really like a design that avoids this, especially if I'm ponying up big money, so liners & frame locks are out.

I know of the AG Russell one-hand knives, but does anyone know of any others that fit this requirement?

Thanks!

Any Spyderco Ball Bearing Lock (or Caged BBL)
Any Spyderco compression lock
Spyderco's new stop lock (on the Parata)
Spyderco Sage 3 or other Bolt locks (old gerbers come to mind)
The old Paul locks on Gerber, Lone Wolf and then Benchmades
Buck Marksman
Any button lock
CRK Ti-lock
Any Hawk Lock (Kershaw Ram...other Kershaws, MUDD, Orbit, etc.)
AD 15 Cold Steel or Demko
We Double Helix

I'll probably think of others later, but that should give you a start

I’ll add compression lock is many people’s favourite.

Don’t forget alot of particularly Spyderco backlocks can be closed one handed.

There’s also the SOG ArC lock and phoney arc lock, but sog tends to make crappy overpriced knives.

Thanks so much! That's quite a bit more than I'd expected, I have some research to do :D

Nirk lock, used by custom maker Brian Tighe. Hogue Ritter and HK knives use the ABLE lock, which is the same design as the AXIS lock, though higher quality.

I can't think of anything else that hasn't already been mentioned.

Freeman's button lock is really slick, opening and closing. Great flipper, or use your thumb in a recess (like a Spyderco hole.) Large knife though.

Compression

Frame

Lock back / tri -ad

Ball bearing lock

Button lock/ Plunge lock

Those are my top five for reliability and durability.

Buck Marksman. Rolling lock by REKAT, but they’re long gone. Damn, that’s one company I wish would come back. So many great designs.

I agree but one design we can get rid of for sure is the Rollock by crkt! Worst scam I ever bought into over a decade ago.

Same here on the love factor for REKAT. You can usually find a Pioneer,SIFU, Carnivore, or Pocket Hobbit on E-Bay but they're rare. The Savant, Carnivore Cub, and Escalator models are just flat out scarce now.
