alternative knife storage methods

Greeting all,

I'm looking for other ways to store my knives. The way I'm doing it now is more of a long term method, I believe. Let me explain...first of all, I do not use 99.9% of my knives. I store them by applying Ballistol or Rem Oil, then put them in a lock tight plastic bag. The problem that I have with this method is, I can't easily access them. Believe it or not, I enjoy fondling my knives.

Anyway...I'm looking for some alternative ways to store my knives. Thank you all in advance for any and all suggestions.

I've been looking for a very wide tool chest which can hold my hawks and machetes and other camping/trail stuff, but with smaller drawers for folders with foam padding like a Pelican case, with a second layer of padding with cutouts for each knife. You'd be surprised what fits those specs. A lot of people use their safes, because a collection adds up in value quickly. Almost all my knives are users, so I like to have access to them all at once to figure out what I feel like carrying. Not sure if you are asking about storage methods, or storage containers.

If you have carbon steel knives, I do believe you can store them with oil or Tuffcloth dry lubricant. I recall that carbon steel should be stored outside of the sheath.

I'd stay away from the lock tight bags unless in an environment of zero humidity else you just lock in the moisture in the air too.

Depending on how much room you have inside the sealed containers(and how serious you want to go with storage), you can also add desiccant to reduce/remove moisture.

This is a cool little storage container I found in my grandpa's crap, it holds my EDC rotation knives and some of my most used knife & flashlight maintenance tools on my dresser. It's to small for my full collection or any fixed blades but it holds even my largest folders. I can pick it up and stick it in the safe if I'm going out of town for any length of time.

This comes up every so often.

Here's what I do (books can be found at Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge or any similar store - foam Science Project Board is like $1 per sheet at various Dollar stores):

I store my "collections" in knife rolls which keep the knives separate so they don't contact each other. The few fixed blades are stored in their sheaths with a heavy coating of rennaisance wax so the leather tanning acids cannot damage the metal. My solitary celluloid peanut is kept in a Kraft cheese jar with the sealing lid on to protect all the others from damage if the celluloid starts decomposing. I store all of the original knife boxes in their own huge box just because:) Knife receipts are stored in a filing folder in case the hardware is stolen so I have proof of purchase for the insurance.
