I read someone is making sheaths out of G-10. Does anyone have one or had any experience with this. I don't like leather, because you have to take the knife out, and kydex scratches. Are there other decent sheath materials available? I know Nylon is okay, but not great, it's good to have something a bit thicker, heck I don't know, I'm just looking for alternatives. thanks.

I have an RJ Martin kwaiken on order...it comes with a carbon fiber covered wood sheath embedded with rare earth magnets...silent draw and no scratching but it is not strong enough to hold the knife inverted (although the magnets are strong enough to allow for neck carry of the smaller Kozukas)

My Criswell katana has a G10 sheath. It's pretty nice, plus, you could probably use the sheath as a weapon too!

I've made them of cordura nylon with a plastic linerand cordura is available in many colors if that's of interest.

Some sheaths made of Micarta too ??

I think that any material you can either get with the right dimensions for easy working, or can be readily fashioned into a sheath can be used.

I have large quantities of a generic phenolic fabric material like Micarta that comes in an amazing range of thicknesses and sizes at very low costs. These could be slabbed together to make a snug fitting sheath that could be made to match a handle too. Or it could be shaped and wrapped.

I heard of someone using flat polycarbonate sheeting as the liner for a sheath that whencovered with leather, looked like a classic mountain man type design.

I know a rifle stock maker who makes custom fibreglass match grade stocks who was experimenting with moulding fibreglass sheaths, but gave it up saying that Kydex was quicker and easier.
