Alternative sheathless carry for Gunting?

I love my Gunting, the fit and finish is superb, absolutely no complaint there! The design and ergonomics of the handle, blade and ramp are everything they are purported to be. And it’s so well balanced that manipulating the drone is so easy, and very, very fun! Heck, even some of my less sheeply friends and family that I’ve handed the drone to are amazed at how easy such a large handle is to manipulate. My only complaint is the placement of the clip. I know that it was designed this way for the grip change, but I’m finding it very, very awkward to carry and deploy, so much so that I usually just don’t carry it. Unlike jeans, most of my dress pants have vertical openings, making for awkward carry and deployment of the Gunting, quite often catching the pocket with the ramp. And coupled with the fact that I’m a desk jockey, sitting all day, the knife had a tendency to work it’s way out. I know that this issue has been extensively discussed before, and the typical resolution is the inevitable suggestion of a sheath of some type (I’ll more than likely wind up going this route). So far, my own experiments have proven to be somewhat awkward, so I’m looking for feedback. Here is my question, leaving a sheath carry as a last resort (I’m really reluctant to add another EDC item to my belt, I’ve got enough crap there as it is: Swisstool, pocket watch belt-pouch, keys, small fixed hawksbill or Moran utility knife, and Mini-Maglight), while utilizing the clip, has anyone found a comfortable method of carrying, and especially deploying, the Gunting from alternative locations (back pockets, IWB front or back, et cetera) to that of the right-front pocket?

Thanks in advance,

Laurence

There is also a pocket sheath for the Gunting. This way you don't have to add anything else to your belt. Skunksworks makes it and a couple people here have them. Try a search and you can see a picture. Using only the clip, IWB carry can work well. You have to find your sweet spot where it feels best in the waistband and make sure the ramp is not too vulnerable.

ThinkOfTheChildren,

Score! Thanks, that Skunkworks pocket sheath is exactly what I'd been looking for and didn't even know it :D Heck, I even found an old thread where Bram discussed the various offerings, and options that addressed those concerns I voiced (it would have helped if I'd been just a bit more patient with using the search feature... "but alas I digress").

Laurence. I also found that it's possible to carry the Gunting in pocket (dress slacks) tip up. The ramp causes the Gunting to stand upright in the pocket and so is ready for the Gunting grip right out of the pocket. I have carried it like that and have not had any problems with the blade opening in the pocket. Use the drone and see if it works for you and also try a "wave" type opening with the ramp.

I wanted to thank all of you for your recommendations. I spoke with Frank at Skunkworks and ordered two sheaths, one for the Gunting, and one for another knife. I also learned that he is a huge wealth of martial arts and general tactics/history information! I'll be doing business with him in the future for all of my tactical/non-tactical plastic needs.

Best to all,

Laurence
