I'm about place another order with CRK for replacement screws, and once again it's for minor aesthetic issues associated with soft screws.
I've used CRK supplied allen keys, as well as higher quality alternatives in an effort to obtain the best fit possible; unfortunately it still doesn't take long before the screws display evidence of wear. More often than not it's the initial takedown that yields the most damage as the folks at CRK seem to torque them down good.
I fully understand the reason for using soft screws, i.e. the screw serves as a sacrificial material rather than more expensive elements of the knife. I also realize the damage I speak of is purely ascetic and minor at that. Nevertheless it still bothers me and I end up replacing screws.
I've seen a number of beautifully modified Sebenzs's on this site, these modified knives display a level of aesthetic appreciation which pale my concern over mared screws.
What I'd like to know has anyone found an alternative, direct fit, screw which still serves as a sacrificial material yet resists marring better than the OEM part?
For now I'll continue to use the standard CRK part, but I'd like to upgrade if possible. Thanks.
